Wrong. It's a UMass home game - and it's at Foxboro.

Who do they think they are? Boston College?

Yeah, home attendance will surely get a boost from all the Mississippi State fans in the area.. You'll be able to hear the cowbells back in Boston

Who do they think they are? Boston College? Whoever or whatever they think they are, UMass is completely delusional if it thinks it has a future in FBS football. UMass ought to go back to being a relatively large fish in a small pond instead of being chum in a shark tank.

You have to admit that is a GREAT schedule. HC take notes.......

You have to admit that is a GREAT schedule. HC take notes....... Their schedule is out of necessity (and to pad the coffers of a $ hemorrhaging program), not by choice - as playing the 5 TD underdog punching bag to three SEC heavyweights is the only way they could fill out the sked as a independent.

A trip to Hawaii is a nice reward for 2 wins or less when the step on the plane!
Actually, looks like they'll go to BYU on the 19th and keep going.

Even with the only two FBS programs in the state, plenty of promotion, and perfect weather, the football Battle for the BayState between UMass and BC at Gillette Stadium, drew just 25,112. I don't think big time college football will ever captivate a large number of New Englanders.

Building an FBS program is not easy. Building it in an environment where everyone (especially in EMass) slams it constantly even harder. Slamming D1 college football has an effect on all programs, even HC. Get behind UMass, it's a good thing.

25000 sounds pretty good to me! Will we get that many to Yankee Stadium?

25000 sounds pretty good to me! Will we get that many to Yankee Stadium? 25000 is the announced attendance. Had a good friend who was there who said that number was fictitious and estimated it to be more like 15-18000. Is that is the best that they can do against an in-state school then it is definitely time to give it up.

Very few schools of UMass' low stature (VERY bottom of the barrel 1A) are going to draw more than 18K when playing another stiff 100 miles from their campus & core fan base.

May I remind you that other than games against Florida St, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, Louisville, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and kind of Notre Dame, BC was absolutely dominant in the ACC

If not dominant, then consistent anyway.

There was a time (lasting many years, in fact) in New England when few paid much attention to the Patriots. It was very easy to get tickets and the organization was rightly ridiculed. Now, of course, things are vastly different. If BC (or UMASS or UCONN) was competing for national championships and considered a heavy hitter in the FBS there would be lots more folks in the stands and many more paying attention. The lack of interest for big-time college football in NE has more to do with the relative mediocrity of the local teams than the notion that area fans only care about the pro teams. My two cents, at least --

The root problem in New England is that the plethora of private schools bleeds support away from the state universities.
