They couldn't have scheduled a time that wasn't head to head with the Patriots?

On the positive side, I cannot remember the last time any hoops coach had an open practice.

In I think Carmody's first year he had an open practice at 7PM on a week night.

On the positive side, I cannot remember the last time any hoops coach had an open practice. Brown had one on a Saturday morning before a football game.

Thanks. I am surprised. Not sure what the need is for most/all practices to be closed.

Thanks. I am surprised. Not sure what the need is for most/all practices to be closed. I agree 100%. Let people come and watch and it may build some new fans. The coach can close practice if he's working on some special new offense or defense he wants to employ as a surprise in the next game. If it's just regular practice let the fans see what's going on

Most workplaces are closed to outsiders.

If it's just regular practice let the fans see what's going on The whole secretive component of not wanting certain things from a practice to leak out wouldn’t be a concern for me. But if you’re a coach and trying to motivate a player, the last thing I’d want is Joey Donuts from the stands construing it as: “Boy, coach Nelson is really riding Austin Butler.” And then that word gets out. When all the coach is really doing is coaching / motivating. Willard was notorious for the “Crossports paper” on the doors to the Hart. Can’t blame him.

And it is not only the team defenses and offenses that a coach would not want scouted, but player tendencies, esp freshmen and other newcomers.

Okay--I might not have thought this through properly...….
I guess I'm thinking that it could do no harm to have me watch practice.....

Are there 2 announced open practices... the other, pre game on homecoming weekend?
Carmody had 'open practices' in at least 2 preseasons that I attended. One started with a closed season followed by an open gym scrimmage.

Sort of The practice mentioned in this thread is listed on the website as an open practice - basically the whole world is invited The Homecoming practice was put out there via a letter from Coach Nelson. It is kind of worded like it was intended for former players. That being said, it had a wider distribution. This seems to be common. It might be a targeted gift to the athletic fund or something like that. Not sure how, but there is some way to get on that former players distribution without being a former player. No matter what, from a practical standpoint, Homecoming is going to be an unadvertised open practice

I can understand why a coach wouldn’t want outsiders in a practice. The great majority have been open under Davis. I have attended a dozen and could have gone to far more. Some were open under Paulsen, although someone familiar with the program could always get access. I don't think having a few spectators affected their practices or their results at all.

I think the format will be more of an intrasquad scrimmage.
