In college soccer, the exact time is displayed on the scoreboard - and there is no extra time added. Then they are well ahead of the international game. But soccer's greatest flaw is deciding championships with shoot outs ridiculous it is like deciding basketball games with a foul shooting contest. but free throws are more of an integral part of the game than penalty shots are to a soccer hame So let's hear of a system to break a tie from you... How many of you know the international baseball tiebreaker which is awesome to end long baseball games!

Nice photos Brian. Thank you! Not my best work but I should be at a bunch of the Holy Cross games this year. Thanks to HC for letting me get some experience.

So let's hear of a system to break a tie from you... One is to reduce the number of field players gradually. another would be to continue play the next day as sudden death both would at least playing the "beautiful game" of soccer and not having a shooting contest to determine championships I'd prefer the first suggestion to PK's. The second is unworkable since there are often more tournament games to be played on future days, making it necessary to have a winner on Game Day - plus stadiums might not be available. Also not really fair to the fans. Other possible solutions: (a) play without goalies at some point; (b) use wider goals (only feasible in big tournaments); and (c) go to a quasi-lacrosse system where only five players can be in the offensive half of the field and five (plus goalkeeper) in the defensive half. I would prefer (c), which would create some exciting soccer with teams going 5 vs 5 at each end. Unlkely that PK's will be dropped, however.

I don't know I kind of like the shootout. You get a lot of drama with the potential for outstanding individual perfomances like this ...

UMass had 10 shots on goal to 4 for Holy Cross. The UMass defense is a good one. The next game is at Maine at 7:0 pm on Thursday. Maine won a scrimmage against Assumption (6-0) and they are currently 23-0 with wins over LIU (2-0) and CCSU (2-1). Both UMass and Maine have each given up only 1 goal to opponents this year in three scrimmages/games. GO CROSS.

looks like the new coach as decided on a frosh goalie instead of the returning senior starter from last year. interesting profile of Caroline Cashion, as she was the place kicker on her h.s. 'football team'

Just glimpsed the live broadcast from Orono. Ladies are down 3-0 in the middle of the second half. Maine's soccer field looks also to be the softball field. Thus at one end, you partly play on dirt. (I don't think its field turf.)

(I don't think its field turf.) That's their baseball stadium - and it's 100% field turf. I doubt Maine could find any opponent willing to travel there to play soccer on a partly dirt field.

Sure looks like dirt but I believe it's clay-colored turf: /video/1
