I'm sure people are stahting to get antsy for football....the PL Pick 'em's will be up soon. To whet your appetite, here's a poll on how you think the PL will fare as a league overall this year. Interesting slate of contests from Syracuse, Navy and Army to Davidson and Elizabeth City St. Only 14 tilts against the Ancient VIII as well.
Buck: @marist, @duquense, Cornell, VMI, @charleston So
Gate: @syracuse, @yale, @richmond, Cornell (10 game sked)
FU: @navy, Eliz.City St, Penn, @monmouth, Yale
GU: Davidson, @marist, Columbia, @harvard, Princeton
HC: @morgan St, @unh, @albany, Dartmouth, Harvard
LC: @ccsu, Delaware, @princeton, Villanova, @army
LU: Monmouth, @nova, @penn, Princeton, @yale

Going through the games now, it's admittedly a tough scale/poll but I'm going to leave it as is....good challenge and all that.

Kind of an odd scale, as you suggest. I have the PL going 14.5 - 19.5 so that puts me in the 15 and under group. Perhaps I'm a bit pessimistic and the PL could win maybe 17 or 18 on the upside. Lafayette appears to have a very tough road to go, for example, and I gave them a 35% chance of beating Central Connecticut and it looks grim for the Leopards after that. I've got Fordham with 2.85 wins as the top contributor to PL wins. To me there appear to be some really tough games with Colgate 5% to beat Navy, Fordham 10% vs Navy, Georgetown 15% (probably too generous) at Harvard, Lafayette 10% at Villanova and 5% at Army.

Yeah....as I said, I created the scale before really analyzing the schedules in detail....good thing I'm not an architect It just seemed like a good "general scale" for a total of 34 OOC games. Colgate and Lafayette have very formidable OOC schedules. I would throw HC, LU and FU a half-step below them with GU and Buck on the other side of the bell-shaped curve in terms of overall schedule difficulty. In the spirit of transparency, I see roughly 17 OOC wins as of right now.

Buck: @marist (W), @duquense (L), Cornell (W), VMI (W), @charleston So (L) 3-2
Gate: @syracuse (L), @yale (W), @richmond (L), Cornell (W) 2-2
FU: @navy (L), Eliz.City St (W), Penn (L), @monmouth (W), Yale (W) 3-2
GU: Davidson (W), @marist (W), Columbia (L), @harvard (L), Princeton (L) 2-3
HC: @morgan St (W), @unh (L), @albany (W), Dartmouth (L), Harvard (W) 3-2
LC: @ccsu (W), Delaware (W), @princeton (L), Villanova (L), @army (L) 2-3
LU: @monmouth (W), @nova (W), @penn (L), Princeton (W), @yale (L) 3-2
18-16 OOC is my prediction -- strangely, I have no one winning or losing 4 or more games out of conference.

It would be tragic if that Fordham battle with Elizabeth City State is the one that does in my prediction.

I think its 18 wins. I found nycrusader10's analysis pretty solid. I would have flipped two games (one each way) so I ended up exactly where he is.

PL is 5-8 after 2 weeks....without GU the league is 3-8 (2-8 against D1 schools), really no signature win either....not the best of stahhts.

In terms of W-L results, not good at all so far, the worst loss being Lehigh to Monmouth at home. However, this past Saturday saw three PL teams hold leads against CAA opponents into the third quarter. Unfortunately, none of those leads held and it's as if it's still 2005 when you look at the final results. The talent has gotten better all around, however, and the wins will come. I think we're going to get a top 25 win on the road next weekend in a game decided by under a TD against Albany.

PL will always be hampered by schollie limits, AI, and nonmedical red-shirting. One might argue that academics are a recruiting advantage and possibly an equalizer although some schools in the CAA, for example, are no slouches. Would love to see the PL take the next step forward and modify these three parameters. We could be toe to toe with the CAA in short course and be able to win most games against the Ivies. That being said, getting two teams into the FCS playoffs with one making a deep run last year was good, right? Really good I'd say.

PL is 11-14 OOC thru this weekend. 9 OOC games remain. No real "signature win" yet imo...the league is 5-3 vs. the Ancient VIII but 0-6 vs. the CAA.
Top to bottom, I'd think you'd have to say the league is still a work in progress vis a vis becoming a stronger football league in general.

If the PL allowed 2 or 3 non medical redshirts per year in addition to the medical redshirts, it would certainly help.

Top to bottom, I'd think you'd have to say the league is still a work in progress vis a vis becoming a stronger football league in general. This statement may be true, to some extent. But, a top tier is emerging within the league of schools getting progressively better results ooc, establishing experience in the first few years of scholly scheduling that are exact patterns for their future schedules. Make no mistake about this: This distinguishes their programs' trajectories for recruits. The "sales job" for the "bottom tier" is becoming harder as they appear to be to be treading water, in every dimension except hype! And some in this latter group have strategically ramped up future schedules challenging their fate and risking embarassment. Unless you're living under a rock or are in complete denial, the patterns are quite clear.

PL has a good chance to add three OOC wins this weekend: Fordham is leading Monmouth 13-6 as Edmonds is racking up big yardage as expected; Colgate scored 21 in the first quarter and leads Cornell 21-2 early in second quarter; and Lehigh leads Yale 14-0 halfway through the first quarter
and as soon as I finished typing Yale busted a 70 yard run and then scored on Lehigh

Lehigh has scored 35 points on just 178 yards of offense three minutes into the second quarter.

Fordham loses and Colgate falls apart; they had at least 3 leads of 19 points or better.

A win by HC over Harvard would be a nice win for the league.

Not a good day overall for the PL.....looks like another season of growing pains with schollies. Funny how some fans create illusions for a sense of comfort. ( "Everybody's doing it" ) In contrast, I see some strong teams in the Pl and some weak teams. Some teams moving ahead, some others floundering. Significant improvement in recruiting and performance is noticeable in some PL teams. Some of the others, not so much. The way some teams have positioned themselves for future challenges is more ominous than for others!

If I have reviewed correctly, the PL has 14 OOC wins so far with one more chance when Bucknell plays Charleston Southern
Lafayette: Central Conn
Georgetown: Davidson, Marist, Columbia
Holy Cross: Morgan State and HARVARD
Bucknell: Marist
Fordham: Eliz City State, Penn, Yale
Colgate: Yale
Lehigh: Penn, Princeton, Yale
My forecast of 14 &1/2 wins is looking pretty good.........

My optimism (20 ooc PL wins) was misplaced - or a year early.
