- Men’s soccer lost a tough one 2-1 in double ot to bucknell - Mens golf is really improved ! In 2nd place out of 14 D.1 schools at the bucknell tourney - shot 3 over with counting scores of 70, 70, 71 and 72 - that has never been seen before

Well, one team came up big (after losses in football, women's soccer, women's hockey, men's hockey and volleyball) the men's golf team, consisting of 2 jrs, 1 soph and 2 frosh won the 36 hole Lehigh Invitational yday and today by beating 13 other D.1 schools including 5 from the PL. The margin was a comfortable 6 strokes over Army and we had three players among the top six in a field of 75 golfers. Isn't it amazing what can be done with a coach who actually recruits and sells the school with 'zero' aid to offer - I have railed for years about the absolute neglect that many of our minor sport coaches display while just being satisfied to field a team and generally get shellacked by PL competition. (and that goes for our golf program for 40 years until the last coach finally retired and they hired a legit professional, Steve Napoli)

Big things ahead this spring and for the golf program. I hope HC Athletics realizes this and gives them money like all the other schools in the patriot league do. Best program on campus right now.

Just to clarify, no PL school except Loyola has any scholarship money at all for golf. Some programs do spend more on travel etc than does HC.

Yes, I knew that. But if you look at annual spend, Holy Cross spends the lowest amount on golf in the Patriot League. My point is: imagine what this team could do with comparative funds and practice resources.

"Lowest amount on golf in the Patriot League" Nah; lowest amount in all of D1 !!!!! great job by coach Napoli There are lots of D1's that spend even less, but HC definitely is on the low side, spending about $85k on the sport in the last available NCAA data (2017-19 season). Some of the schools in the northeast that also are under $100K include Fordham, Fairfield, La Salle, Niagara, NC A&T, UMES, and Wagner. Of this group, Niagara is at the bottom. PL spending: Loyola $401k Colgate $212k Lafayette $172k Lehigh $165k Bucknell $138k Holy Cross $84k As mentioned, this data is for the 2017-18 season. I would not be surprised if the HC expenditure has gone up since then. Iirc, Napoli just began his third year at HC and I am sure he has been lobbying for a larger budget.

Wait! Are you telling me that Holy Cross doesn't even have full-ride caddy scholarships like THE Ohio State University has? [You may think I am kidding but it's true, or at least was when I lived in Columbus]

I think that's more a matter of someone who wins an Evans Scholarship for Caddies choosing to attend TOSU than TOSU offering scholarships for caddies.

What PL schools have an on campus golf course? I know Bucknell does....not sure if The Orchards is owned/run by Colgate. I'm trying to figure out how a school spends 400K on golf? High greens fees???

A disastrous weekend with today’s losses by women’s hockey, field hockey, volleyball and men’s soccer (6-1 blowout at army) - golf saved an otherwise total embarrassment
