It seems to me that we face more uncertainty this season than we have in most with a new coach, the loss of a great star in JF and two solid players in Green and Grandison, and no doubt the arrival of a new strategy. Will we be playing man-to-man defense, crashing the boards and playing at a faster tempo? We'll see. Many of us are excited about our incoming freshmen and also hopeful that a new style of play will capitalize on some talents that may have been under-utilized in the prior regime. We've run this poll for many seasons. Looking back at the past two years, our posters have been a little bit optimistic, i.e. they predicted more wins than the team delivered.
23+= 2 posters 20-22= 4 17-19= 16 14-16= 14 11-13= 13......the team finished 12-19 So 36 too high, 13 correct, 5 too low 10 or fewer= 5
23+= 8 20-22= 10 17-19= 21 14-16= 12....the team finished 16-17 So 39 too high, 12 correct, 2 too low 11-13= 2 10 or fewer= 1
This year I'm going to use a different scale as I believe it is warranted and it will include 7 selections instead of 6 so we can have a really low starting point that may appeal to some posters.
Note:while the poll asks you to select a range of wins, most posters will want to offer some editorial commentary and a breakdown by OOC/PL Regular Season/PL Tourney/Post-Season, for example
4-8 Out of Conference 8-10 PL regular season 1-1 PL Tournament
13 Total Wins
The Assumption game is an Exhibition and is not included. The UMass-Boston game is a regular season game and is included
Everyone is encouraged to participate including our friends from Bucknell, Lehigh, Notre Dame, etc
Last year I guessed/predicted right by figuring that we were a little bit better (with JF and Grandy improving) than the previous year (and assuming our opponents were about the same on a macro level).
This year is a much weaker roster than last year and we are playing a somewhat similar schedule to last year. Last year's record was 16-17
I went with 12-14. Normally an optimist, I think this will be a true developmental year. However, with no knowledge of most of our team (and their current abilities) it is a bit like shooting in the dark. ooc = 4-9 pl = 9-9 plt = 1-1
However, with no knowledge of most of our team (and their current abilities) it is a bit like shooting in the dark.
While this is always a fun exercise and while the current situation for our Crusader team includes many question marks, even when we "know" all about our team, all the other opponent teams are question marks and remain so until they actually start playing some games.
With that said, I am also usually an optimist but have selected 11 wins as I decided to use the Disney philosophy of under-promise and over-deliver ("you are 45 minutes from the ride at this point" when they know you are really only 20-25 minutes away and you are pleasantly surprised that you "only" waited 25 minutes), So, I am putting my bet on 11 wins so when our boys win 15 or 16 I will go "WOW!"
