Which is basically "bad"....it is what it is but when we aren't decent/good, it makes for a very long Wintah watching/following the hoop team playing against similarly bad teams, in mostly empty gymnasiums. I've barely watched the team this year (nothing against the guys or the coaches) but if I'm not watching, I can only imagine how few people are this year.

Maybe, very soon we’ll look more like schools in the south where ‘football recruiting season never ends’

Maybe, very soon we’ll look more like schools in the south where ‘football recruiting season never ends’ Some of those Southern schools have pretty decent hoop teams. We don't. Looks like it's going to be a long winter.

I know it isn’t unique to the Patriot League but players and coaches can’t help but notice.

No, just my personal preference...I like what I see from those two but I'm not going to go out of my way to see us play at say Loyola (MD) online this year...it's just not worth the time this year quite frankly...no animus toward anyone etc....we are just in a major rebuild this year, I'll check in here and there but not follow religiously ( no pun intended)

The league's standard bearer Colgate lost today in overtime to a 1 win Niagara team. Ouch. Combined record of HC, BU and Lehigh is terrible. Bucknell is uncharacteristically down. Lafayette might be the best team in the conference. League as a whole is very weak.

Here's where Ken Pomeroy has the Patriot League ranked over the past few years. Of course we know the past years include OOC, League play, and post season while this year includes only part of the OOC schedule
14-15= #23 with (5.26) rating 15-16= #27 (8.24) 16-17= #23 (4.79) 17-18= #27 (8.16) 18-19= #21 (4.84) 19-20= #21 (5.18)
I interpret the rating of (5.18) to mean that the #230 team in D-1 would be projected to go 9-9 in league play.

After Army's loss the other night to Merrimack the league is now 2-6 against the NEC. Against the other two leagues we're supposedly better than the PL is 6-6 against America East and 5-6 against the MAAC. Last year the PL was 11-3 against AE, 13-5 against the MAAC and 9-6 vs NEC. It seems to confirm what some have been saying that the league is significantly weaker this year.

Just because the PL was ranked above those leagues last year or even for the last 5 years, that doesn't mean the PL will be ranked above them every year. I don't look at those numbers like others on this board, but I expect that most mid/low major conferences bounce around some point with annual fluctuations. The PL is usually ranked somewhere in the low to mid 20's. Unless you see a trend in either direction, a snapshot of a given time is just that, a snapshot. Maybe in 2020, HC will be ranked below the NEC. If the PL is ranked below the NEC for three years in a row, then it might be time to grumble

I'm all for grumbling now. Tis the season - "bah, humbug!"
Really, I don't lose any sleep over where the Patriot League is ranked, just where HC is ranked. As I recall, some have said that Gonzaga is in a relatively (note this key word) weak league but are frequently nationally ranked. I don't expect us to be nationally ranked, except perhaps on the mid-major level. Let's get there sooner rather than later.
Come on, Brett, you can get us there!!

The league would be doing much better if not for Holy Cross.
Just a shame that we are not up to the league standards. I hope in the Christmas spirit that the PL doesn't start a campaign to kick Holy Cross out of the league.

It seems to confirm what some have been saying that the league is significantly weaker this year. The biggest issue is what teams the PL teams have been playing. If good PL teams play mediocre AE teams, then the results will obviously be better than if weak PL teams play stronger AE teams.. That is an issue comparing the league against other leagues year to year. Overall the PL is ranked exactly the same (#21) this year as it was last year. If HC was as good this year as it was last year, the PL would be 19th this year. Fwiw, the PL continues to be stronger than the MAAC, AE, and NEC - based on overall performance. Also you didn't choose to mention the Ivy League. The PL has a MUCH better record this year vs the IL than it had last year.
