Looks like Cent Conn didnt get much respect from the committee.

Does the NCAA reimburse each team for their travel costs or does each team get a predetermined stipend and they are then the school is responsible for any shortfall? Obviously this game includes an overnight hotel stay for the team, but I would assume they are expected to travel by bus to NJ on Friday. the selection guy said a distance of 400 miles or less for the visiting team means not flying Looks like the distance is about 228 miles and a 4 hour, 15 min. bus ride.

In a way I feel bad Villanova had to travel. I wish we drew Albany. I think that was winnable and a bit closer for New Englanders. Was it out of the question to host Albany or Towson if SE Louisiana also with 7 wins hosts a game. Not an awful draw in my opinion, but not a great draw. Could be winnable. I was at Albany's game yesterday and I think a Monmouth matchup is more favorable to us. Plus it is just about a 4.5 hour drive from Worcester It seems the higher ranked team (there may be an exception I missed) essentially hosts and we are the lowest ranked team that qualified in the east by a pretty large margin so (IMHO) no way we were hosting.

Looks like Cent Conn didnt get much respect from the committee. Seemed fair as they are ranked (I'm looking at Massey) well under Albany - so Albany hosts. Villanova is also ranked better than CCSU and Nova was banished far away. I guess if it was a HC-CCSU matchup CCSU would have hosted.

Monmouth beat Lafayette, 24-21 In the last six quarters of play, HC has been a force to be reckoned with. Throw out the record books and the 68% chance Monmouth has of winning that is based presumably on the whole season of play.

pride - one thing I like about the Monmouth matchup is that they've been invincible against the PL of late. Last loss was to us in 2015 I think and probably 7-0 since. Safe to say theyre due to lose to a PL member.
Monmouth also only beat Lafayette by 4 points.
I'll almost definitely be heading out there for the day. The goal should be for HC fans to outnumber Monmouth in the stands.
A couple EARLY TD drives will go a long way in this one.
As far as the better teams hosting, typically yes it works out that way. CCSU should be IRATE at being sent on the road however. Also Villanova is for sure a higher rated team than SELA but are getting shipped down there. UNH for many years always griped about getting sent on the road.

Great feeling that we did not back into the tournament after a loss and a Lehigh win. Holy Cross burst through the front door by finishing the season on a roll.

Monmouth beat Lafayette, 24-21 How was Wagner? Monmouth only topped them by a deuce. Wagner lost to DII East Stroudsburg and also played UCONN within 3 points. Take those results for what they're worth.

The only points on the board over that span being the ho-hum buzzer-beater TD at Fordham long after the final result was determined.

Excepting Lafayette followers, I'm pretty sure just about every PL fan was rooting for us yesterday. League would have had A LOT of egg on its face with a 4-8 team earning a playoff berth.

Their home attendance Only 2 games over 3000 That answers the question of where the HC fans will sit.

Their home attendance Only 2 games over 3000 ...and the students for the most part away until Sunday too. Expect "plenty of good seats available" to be the norm.

The good news is that CCSU can show they can beat a good CAA team this year by beating Albany. Both teams should be hungry but this could be some extra motivation. Villanova did jump out as a clearly higher ranked team being sent on the road (I figure they can't host for some reason but I could be wrong).

I know there was a system were schools "bid" to host...not sure if that's still in place and/or if a team with a higher ranking/bettah record etc takes precedence ovah the bid etc....there's a video at ncaa.org that explains much of the seeding etc, haven't watched yet.
I remembah Colgate underbid or didn't bid and had to travel to Wagner a few years ago....and lost.
I doubt the NCAA is looking into making $$$ on these 1st round games....usually sparsely attended due to Thanksgiving, smaller venues of the non-seeded teams usually etc....but you have to think HC would have been a bigger draw given attendance this year, larger local metro area etc. than Monmouth.

The NCAA reimburses for travel to the championship game. In a post yesterday I provided a link to Eastern Washington's budget for appearing in last year's championship. Eastern Washington had three home games, so there was no travel cost for those games. Even with the NCAA reimbursing for travel to the championship game, EWU had to pay, out of pocket, for nearly $300,000 in expenses that were not covered either by ticket revenue for the three home games and the championship game, or by NCAA travel reimbursement to the championship. The total cost was for the four games EWU played was over $1 million.
Monmouth's obligation as host was/is to reserve 60 hotel rooms with double beds for HC. Monmouth does not pay the lodging cost, it only reserves the rooms.
