Granted it's a stretch given that Sac. St will probably be seeded and get a bye, as well as the regionalization of the playoff system but it would be pretty cool if these two fine institutions finally met on the gridiron on the 50th anniversary of the 1969 hepatitis-stricken season.
Long-shot, but it could happen theoretically.

Hear ya lol....of the belief though that if we can't beat this GTown team at Fitton,, we deserve to stay home.
As many know, I'm not the biggest fan of these playoffs but a game against Sacramento St would change my overall opinion somewhat.
More than likely has about as much a chance of happening as me winning Wimbledon next year....but it would be pretty cool if the playoff committee set it up so that this game became a possibility.

I think the bracketology missed the geographic aspect of the first round. While I would have no expectation of hosting a game, travelling to SE Louisiana (did we play them in basketball some years back?) is a bit ridiculous. I also think CCSU, especially with a projected win next week should be hosting, if not have a bye. Travelling to Monmouth?
Given our special history with Sac State, it would be nice to see us head out there on the 50th anniversary of them putting on the ole purple jerseys. SE Louisiana is sitting at 7-3 but one loss is a tight one to Ole Miss 40-29 (not bad considering it is an FBS game) and two eh losses to McNeese and Incarnate Word. They have Nichols on Thursday and could very well lose that game.

Can't speak for any of you but that'd be a kick in my head. About 8-10 years ago I tried to broker an HC-Sac State game while on a business trip to Sacramento. I had a business associate who graduated from Sac State, lived in Sacramento and knew the AD there. He took a Classmate of mine who played on the 1969 hepatitis team and me to the campus and we met the AD and an assistant football coach. They have a very nice stadium roughly the size of Fitton but much newer and in better repair. Pretty sure they had artificial turf. So, we chat up about the "Missing Season" and how since the teams never played each other (believe in '69 Sac State was D-2) it'd be a nice thing to so since one of the anniversaries was coming up. Both the AD and football coach loved the idea. Neither was around in '69 but apparently part of the folklore of that "fine institution." They would have loved to play HC at home or even at Fitton as they said they would really like an east coast game but the issue was money. HC would have to pay their expenses!!! (What's the chances of HC on the giving end of a "pay game?" - zero). I emphasized that I was not there representing HC and could not speak for Holy Cross. My classmate, though ex-football player (not I), let me do most of the talking since I knew both Dick Regan and Tom Gilmore well. When we return back home and I see Regan, he shoots down the idea right away as he apparently didn't see the publicity value to the game or felt any need to pay back for the nice Sac State gesture. He sure wasn't going to look to try to find money for either a trip to the west coast or to pay even partially for Sac State to come to Fitton. TG, while nicer about it, was adamantly opposed to the team doing any west coast trips as Dan Allen had done. He felt it was too long a trip for the players. He also knew HC wasn't about to spend scarce financial resources to keep a few old alums happy. With apologies to moose who has heard all this before. [While he is a football/classmate, he's not the one who was with me] If you don't know the connection to Sac State, read this article from the Holy Cross Magazine: www.holycross.edu/departments/publicaffairs/hcm/fall04/features/feature1.html

Based on that bracket there is one odd man out team among HC, CCSU, Nova, Albany and Monmouth. One of those 5 teams have to travel. Most decisions are made with geographic proximity in mind to reduce costs. In fact a school will only be reimbursed for airfare travel if they are more than 400 miles away from the visiting site. The 1 team that is left out of those proposed 5, should they advance, will have to travel a decent distance again would be my guess because they would be placed in a non Northeast bracket. Best case - per the bracket - would be a trip to James Madison, in terms of proximity as they only seed the Top 8.
In terms of getting/not getting a home game the following are considered: Strength of facility; Revenue opportunity; Home attendance during the year; Team performance against other Division 1 teams.
I only know this because there was a video on Twitter detailing the selection process. Yes, I'm a loser.

Believe NCAA pays for all travel. Cost should not be an issue.

Dharry, Definitely not a loser There are many here who would do the same, and we cannot all be losers, can we ? Do you know how we fare in those categories compared to the other four ?

I could be wrong but the video specifically made mention of the airfare/bus costs. In order to be reimbursed by NCAA, and the distance is less than 400 miles away they have to take a bus.
IMO Albany, Villanova and Monmouth have more difficult conference schedules, with higher quality wins. CCSU was 10-1. They played Eastern Michigan tough and lost by 5. Common opponent - they beat Fordham by 3 and HC beat them by 22. NEC's top 5 teams went 5-0 against the PL this year (Sacred Heart was 3-0). They were all close except Sacred Heart against Bucknell.
If there is an odd team out based on their projections in terms of travelling IMO it would be HC. Southeast Louisiana BTW is 7-3; lost to Mississippi (SEC) 40-29; they score a ton. Beat Stephen A Austin, Jacksonville State, Central Arkansas. They are averaging 37 points per game.

Beat Stephen A Austin, Jacksonville State, Central Arkansas. They are averaging 37 points per game. Pretty good analysis above. There are still a lot of moving parts that have to come together in the Northeast region before we can really figure out exactly how the playoff field will be laid out. You have at least 3 CAA teams (Towson, Albany, Maine) that MUST WIN their games in order to get in. Lose and they're out. Villanova might need to beat Delaware but they should still sneak in at 8-4 with a weak finish to the season, unless Towson, Albany and Maine all win. Unlike Towson and Albany, Maine is also not a lock with a win but IMO it would be highway robbery to keep them out even at 7-5 when you you consider the fact that they would finish 5-3 in the CAA, 7-3 against FCS and would finish the season on a 5-game winning streak. So you have potentially the following teams all making the field from the region: PL Winner, CCSU, Monmouth, Villanova, Towson, Albany, Maine. Out of this group of 7 schools, as few as 4 could make it and as many as 7. A few other factors to consider: 1) While FAMU will represent the MEAC in the Celebration Bowl, the 2nd and 3rd place teams in that league are in play. North Carolina A&T is tied for second and would be considered a "drive-able" opponent for Towson. 2) Albany and Monmouth played each other (as did Lafayette and Monmouth) so NCAA will not allow this re-match to occur in Round of 24. 3) As pointed out by cruskater31, it's still possible CCSU gets a seed and a bye a la Colgate last year. If they take care of business Saturday, they will be 11-0 against FCS competition with a (very) close FBS loss. Note they are not yet ranked in the Top 8 but I still think it's likely they get rewarded by committee. 4) HC is the only possible "drive-able" opponent the NCAA could send to Maine in the first round IF CCSU gets a seed. 5) Conference match-ups can and have happened in the Round of 24 if the schools did not play each other during regular season. So Villanova-Albany is an option for the committee.

Long-shot, but it could happen theoretically. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be completely shocked if the committee tried to find a way to set this POSSIBILITY up. Of course, if Sac State is seeded, HC would need to win one to make it happen. Would be pretty solid ESPN material. Remember how much hype the Delaware-Delaware State first round game got in 2007? Only 2 DI schools in the state and had never met prior. Media tried to make a big deal about how Delaware was "afraid" of playing and losing to their little brother, instead choosing to play D-II West Chester annually (a series that has since ended). The result of this game and rout of a four-game series the schools played afterwards showed that these media accusations were indeed "fake news". Anyway, HC-Sac State would be about as interesting a back-story for an FCS playoff match-up than I can recall since UD-DSU which aired on ESPN2.

You guys are delusional. There's nobody on the planet outside of the posters in this thread who even knows about this connection. You think the FCS selection committee or the ESPN marketing dept is aware? Silliness. To be clear, I also think it would be cool to see this matchup. But there is absolutely nobody bending the bracket in favor of making it happen. If it does happen, it's dumb luck.

So we should be prepared for the ESPN 30-for-30 episode about the 1969 hepatitis outbreak to maybe not happen?

Like much of America I haven't invested that much interest in the FCS playoffs either. If HC had been allowed to participate in the Duffner years when they would have had a legitimate chance to add a fourth national title (NCAA basketball and baseball, NIT basketball) I bet I would have followed them more closely ever since. But now that we have a .667 chance of going this year (two out of three outcomes on Saturday get us in) I'm psyched to see how an improving Chesney Team rises to the challenge if we qualify.

While the NCAA does try to defer to geography in the playoffs, there is always an odd man out or two...last year Stony Brook had to head to SE Missouri, and, had they won, then proceeded on to Weber State in Utah...similar story for Monmouth in 2017...on the road at UNI, with a game in South Dakota State should they proceed. (I recognize for the away team they are technically an underdog so the geography of the second round isn't as important, but LI-->SE Missouri-->Utah, or NJ-->IA-->SD is a ton of travel in a 2 week span).

Sac State is listed as a potential 6 seed, but is ranked 4/4 in the Coaches and Stats poll. SE Louisiana is ranked 22/21. HC and Maine are not ranked, both at 6-5, however with the aforementioned schedule strength, Maine did receive votes in the Stats poll. Towson is 20/19, Monmouth is 12/15. I think the current bracketology projection is exceptionally unfair to CCSU in a first round matchup with Monmouth. (Monmouth probably wouldn't want to play a 10-1 team either for that matter). Albany is not ranked but does receive votes in both polls. If Maine, Nova, Towson, and Albany all win (as NYCrusader said, Villanova will most likely still get an at-large even if they lose), one is likely out or at least not playing a regional game. Based on those rankings, Maine would be the odd duck out. Good thing we have a 75% chance (or greater!) of getting the auto-bid

Bracket bending or not, it would be a good story and the FCS tournament needs all the good stories it can get. ESPN can pay for the airfare.
A 30 for 30 (or maybe a 10 for 10) on the hepatitis season would be an interesting piece.

If few people outside the two schools remember what happened, it might just be an even more appealing story for an ESPN feature. BTW, might we want to concentrate on getting a win on Saturday as the first order of business?

Believe NCAA pays for all travel. Cost should not be an issue. NCAA site states NCAA pays travel for the championship game. No indication NCAA covers travel for playoff games leading to the championship. (The exception would be hoops, given the revenue stream to the NCAA for the Dance.)
