So we don't have historical roots there? Correct? Stop splitting hairs.

We played Fairfield home-and-home every year for about a decade during the Willard and FCMB eras.
Fordham doesn't seem to be interested in a series. They love their one-off home games at Rose Hill against the likes of Maine FDU and the MEAC.
We just played FDU two years ago...yawn. I'll go to the next game there if I have some IKEA shopping to do.
For those foaming at the mouth for an annual NYC-area game, we do play Army every year in West Point. I go every year and it's always a pleasant trip. Seems like its always a Wednesday night game and I never hit traffic heading there from the Bronx.

I'd throw St. John's and St. Peter's off the bus with FDU.
The former because there's simply no way that a power basketball school will schedule a Patriot League school on a frequent basis; heck, we can't get nearby PC, UConn and BC to play games any more. Any bone they throw us is exclusively on their terms.
The latter because there have been no games played since 1991, the year after HC left the MAAC. 29 years of no games would clearly indicate mutual disinterest.

Sorry but 50+ miles away and an hour and a half by train from Midtown is not a "NYC-area game". West Point is indeed difficult to get to by public transit unless you get someone to pick you up at Garrison stop on Hudson Line and drive across Bear Mtn Bridge. But to anyone with automobile (which is most HC alum) its a mostly traffic-free drive once you get out of the city. And even easier for those in Westchester or NJ. Hofstra is another campus I've found to be a pleasant drive because it's very quick getting there off either Throgs Neck or Whitestone Bridges. Aside from playing a game at The Garden, Barclays or at Fordham, Columbia or Iona any other "NYC area" school presents challenges that are either traffic or public trans related. Try leaving NYC during PM rush and going to a 7pm game at SHU or Fairfield. Or getting out to St. John's campus from anywhere in NYC other than Queens via car or the LIRR/Q27 combo. How about Wagner? I can get to Worcester faster from my house.

Not all NYC HC alums/fans live in Manhattan, and by your methodology the Auburn Mall would be "Boston-area".

Fact #1- HC has many alums in the greater NYC area (NYC, northern Jersey, southern CT) Fact #2- Greater NYC area is a major source of potential recruits Fact #3- HC does not play in the greater NYC area

While I'd prefer a St John's, Seton Hall, Fordham etc ...a metro-NYC school we haven't played much but would be a good NYC game is Columbia imo.

...there's a good handful of D1 schools that we haven't even mentioned yet. Plenty of chances if they want a game in that area.
Chicken-and-egg situation. We don't recruit very many players from there any more (Floyd somewhat close to there; Hart a walk on. Who before that?). Of course, not playing in that area might be sabotaging our efforts to sign someone.
Getting back to Army; depending on exactly where one lives/works, might be faster to drive to Laffy and Lehigh.

Having come from greater NYC and with so many fellow grads and friends from there, it's amazing how we cut our deep roots there when we joined the PL and kissed off Fairfield, Fordham, St Johns, Iona, Manhattan, Hofstra, Fairleigh, St Petes, etc. Cousy, Heinsohn, Palazzi, etc., etc., all from there. On the flip side, just think how easy it is for the HC Alumni of Central PA and Upstate NY to attend HC athletic events not to mention making inroads to those fertile recruiting areas. You can’t make this stuff up. Let’s join a league with colleges we have no history with except Colgate and Army, located in places with few alumni, in places far, far away from where we are. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The Bargain Basement is a great place to catch a game and easy to get in and out of. The last time HC played at Columbia was one of the worst collapses we've had in the past 20 seasons. We led 35-15 early in the second half, and then Columbia ended the game on a 31-10 run to win it 46-45.

Problem now though, unless you grew up in an HC home or were/are a Greater Worcester resident, you'd have to be well into your 50s to remembah when HC basketball actually mattahed.

Why is all this discussion about HC basketball playing in and around NYC in the 2020 HC FOOTBALL schedule thread.
I know we run terribly off topic sometimes, but this is ridiculous! We're at 2+ pages talking about basketball scheduling ...and yes, I know I contributed to it!

Can you imagine someone joining this board today and, having seen the title of this thread, concluding "This is great, we're going to have a productive three page discussion on each of Holy Cross's upcoming games"...….

Lehigh and Lafayette are two easy road trips I highly recommend for NYC-area alum. Typically I go every year to see our football team play against whichever of the two schools we face on the road. However, I did also travel out for the PL Basketball Championship in 2016. I was at Carragher's Bar on 39th Street and 8th Avenue at 330pm and made it out to Bethlehem shortly after 5pm. Trip home was obviously traffic-free. Only been to Lafayette once for hoops which was our loss in the 07-08 PL opener. And again, while ACTP correctly doesn't consider West Point to be NYC-area, it's just as easy if not easier to get to than most DI schools in and around the city for those who have access to a car. Cristl Arena is a particularly great place to watch a hockey game but I make the Wednesday night basketball trip annually as well.

The last game we played there (a gut-wrenching loss) which SOV touched on was very well attended by young alum living in the city. 13-14 season IIRC.

Not all NYC HC alums/fans live in Manhattan, and by your methodology the Auburn Mall would be "Boston-area". That's a great analogy. I hate it when Holy Cross gets referred to as being "outside Boston". No one would describe Providence College as such, even though they're a) closer to Boston and b) located in a city that's smaller than Worcester. While I don't consider West Point to be "NYC area", I was just trying to point out that it is indeed a very convenient road trip for those living in Metro New York. Really not hard at all for those that own a vehicle to leave work at a reasonable time and make a 7pm tip or puck drop without having to rush. Not to mention it's on the same side of the river as our fans/alum in NJ. If we ever played a Saturday basketball game up here (it's been at least 15 years somehow), would be a good opportunity for an HC Club of NY Bus Trip or event.
