No, it's not. The amount of talent that CSK inherited vs. CBN is night and day.
There's no way you can listen to Nelson talk about his vision vs. listen to CSK talk about his, and equate the two.
My point is RW adapted to what he had, so far BN hasn't. I am sure he will be a decent coach, but he needs to make some adjustment to his personnel's strength and weaknesses. RW had two years of non-scholarship players, he would have never try to Run and Gun with Juan Pegues, Jared Curry and Josh Sankes. He knew their weaknesses and had them play tough and slow the game down. RW turned his first teams into the style that he would be employing going forward — he did not make special arrangements for them. Nelson is doing the same, and only time will tell if it’s going to work. Trying to hold back on employing his style with the program for the sake of getting a couple more wins with the absolutely disastrous situation that Carmody left behind is not actually going to do anything to help us in the long run. I would much rather lose a few more games this year if it means true change will be on the horizon.

I understand that point.
Well then would like to see box outs, rebounding, diving on the floor for loose balls, stopping drives. so far, not much of that. Hope that is in the plans, lots of threes on offense, pretty much BC without the defense.

Bring Back, what style is Nelson’s defense?

Bring Back, what style is Nelson’s defense? In time, I hope it is a sound, aggressive, connected man-to-man defense that creates turnovers and makes opponents uncomfortable. We are a long way away, and Nelson is currently not only having to deal with a roster devoid of talent, but also a toxic culture where guys were more likely to get thrown off the team/out of school than become all-PL players. With a fully engaged and motivated Nelson, a lead assistant like RJ Evans, and more talent on the way next year, I am cautiously optimistic that things will be significantly better in the next couple years.

They played a 1-2-2 three quarter trap defense in the second half, and were pretty successful in disrupting FAU and almost got back in it. A couple bad calls, and a few miscues, and they fell short. Also saw some 2/3 zone, which was pretty successful, outside of some of FAUs unconscious three point shooting.

Waiting for Ky Crusader to substitute we for us in my post. Can never remember which is correct.🤔 Perhaps us fans committed an infraction also. Even though Dick Lutsk announced at the end of the game he would be joined by BN for a post game interview, the Coach never appeared. Just drop the word "fans" and you can tell that it should be " we (fans) committed an infraction" Good tip to remember. Same as "me and I."

Excluding the one-and-done schools, has a program had less seniors in the past 3 years than this one? Floyd, Benzan, Ziggy and LeSann. One solid guy, two role players and a KP.
Part of me thinks Carmody took the easy way out by stepping down; although I'm glad he did.

If we're playing like this 2 years from now....then pull out the scotch...this is going to be a lengthy rebuild to being fairly decent...this team neither warrants nor deserves any added agita for them or for ourselves.

To follow up on NAD’s point, not only was the second half tonight the first time we’ve had the whole roster (excluding LeSann) available but it also emphasized to me how important Pridgen’s presence is. In the 7 halves (including an OT) that he has played, HC has been outscored by 31 points (4.4 pts./half) and in the 5 halves that he has missed, HC has been outscored by 85 points (19 pts./half). I’m not suggesting that he would have made up the entire difference in any of the halves that he missed but I think that the average deficit would have been a lot less than 19 pts./half.

NAD better get started now on his annual Christmas poem because like the team, he's got a lot of work to do this year and not much to go on! ! But, knowing my guy Dave, he will make "something out of nothing", sort of like making "Old Forester 100 out corn, rye and barley"! !

Seriously, though, aside from Northeastern (a Hailey's Comet kind of game in my mind), is anyone REALLY shocked at the results thus far? Totally new approach to the game; a major chunk of the roster brand new, a coach that is hired mid summer (and in his first year as a head coach). I think Ray nailed it with speaking of the inability to get stops; had they strung just 2-3 together they probably beat UNH and Fairfield. I wish the guys would be further along than they are, but to me it's understandable. It's way different if this same level of performance is occurring in February. I thought we were going to be patient.....

Not that I'm trying to say CBN is going to have this kind of career, but Bob McKillop's first 3 years at Davidson: 4-24, 10-19,11-17. I'll bet their fans weren't all that thrilled with him at the end of year 3.

With due respect to Lowder's showmanship at the offensive end, Pridgen is the best all-around player on the team at this point. Humphrey sounds like he could be Pridgen-like as well, and hopefully Martindale and Rabinovich can provide some defensive toughness too. Until then, a relatively simple zone (the 2-3 may be it) should be the primary D.

Maybe Coach Nelson should try to maximize the effectiveness of the 1-2-2 because it appears once our opponents get the ball into the front court, it’s over.

Should we start a Grammar & Usage thread?

Thrilled to be back on the Board. Wife & I drove to Boca from Venice, FL (which is half hour south of Sarasota). Staying for all the games. Ran into the usual suspects, especially sader81. FAU was raining 3s last nite. Clearly quicker than us and outmuscled us at the rim. If all our players had been available from the start, might have been more competitive. It's vital that our players and coaches keep their morale at a high level. They're all doing their best. We need lots of patience.

Applaud Nelson's decision to sit the freshmen for a violation of team rules. At this point it's more important to develop the culture he's looking to build rather than possibly winning the game. Hopefully this is the last incident of this nature as this type behavior is getting very tiresome and is historically not what we've come to expect from the program. At this point the only players that appear capable of playing solid man to man defense are Pridgen and Copeland. As has been mentioned previously Lowder is a very skilled offensive player but his defense so far had been atrocious. I was hoping the Assumption exhibition game, where their point guard went by him at will, was an aberration but unfortunately that has not been the case. When your point guard can't stay in front of his man and you no longer have an eraser protecting the rim you're in big trouble. After his freshman year I thought Faw would develop into a solid PL player but to date his play has taken a step back rather than improving. At this point we have players who have had good games but there generally is no consistency to their play. On the positive side Copeland has played pretty well the last 3 games. It must be discouraging to shoot 67% and 75% from two and three point range in the second half and only shave two points of the halftime deficit.

Discouraging, indeed....and that's another challenge for our new coach (keeping guys looking ahead and not dwelling on the losses).
Welcome back Sarasota!
