URI defense was excellent and made us look really bad. Very little movement without the ball....a recipe for failure. Our 5 position is in dire straits. We looked very ill-prepared. I did think that center Megan Swords had a nice scoring touch in the paint a couple of times even though she was guarded by tall defenders.

Ezemma was made to look awkward whenever she was in the paint. That was most unusual for her. The comeback by HC was solid, but with the lead in the early 4th quarter it was as if HC simply forgot how to score...and to pass (some of those were way off the mark and 2 went into the stands without being touched). Let's see how HC does against UMass.

Let's see how HC does against UMass. They had a bad game, or in truth, 2 bad quarters, the first & final. Ezemma has appeared to have taken a step back on offense, rushing her finish most of the time. The injury bug has certainly caused havoc on their rotation. I thought that both Demski & Petro would be key off the bench players and not having Falherty doesn't help either. I was surprised Murphy got no minutes.

Didn’t watch it but if the game was in the Ryan Center, it is a relatively huge place and likely very empty which might have made zeroing in on the basket difficult. Just speculation on my part.

I have seen that happen. There are courts where it can be difficult to get a shot down comfortably for some players. However, by the 4th quarter, with HC in front, I am not sure that was a factor any longer.

They should have a cozier gym on campus like BU does for smaller attendance games to cut down on heating and staffing a big barn like the Ryan Center.

URI actually still has the old basketball on campus home Keaney Gym which seats some 3,400. It's floor has however been converted for volleyball use. I think much of the reason for the women playing basketball games in the modern Ryan Center is more related to fairness and equal treatment since that is where the men play.

Good point about fairness. UMass has the new(er) Mullins Center and I believe they still have the older Curry Hicks Cage that some preferred because it was more of a pit and gave UMass a bigger home court advantage. I believe both men and women used to play some games in the cage and some at Mullins. I attended one HC-UMass women's BB game at the Mullins Center and it was ridiculously empty.

I covered a Liberty and Houston women’s game at the Mullins Center a couple of years ago. There was 18 people in the crowd (more staffers than people) as UMass-Northeastern was the other game in the tournament which was played before my game over thanksgiving break.

The Rhode Island men hosted Providence just two nights later in the Ryan Center and drew 8,052, the 2nd largest crowd in the 18 season history of the Ryan Center. I was one of them.

That's an encouraging report about the health of New England D-1 basketball. If BN successfully executes a Full Nelson turnaround, HC could compete in that Stratosphere...if we can train Central Massonians to love College Hoops like Ocean Staters do.

If BN successfully executes a Full Nelson turnaround, HC could compete in that Stratosphere...if we can train Central Massonians to love College Hoops like Ocean Staters do. The URI-PC rivalry is the last true local rivalry that still exists today in New England men's college basketball. The two schools have played nearly every year for almost 100 years with 130 meetings all time. The conference Balkaninzation of New England has eliminated all the other longtime rivalries such as HC-BC, HC-PC, UConn-URI, and UConn-UMass. The annual Battle of RI however still survives today and sells out nearly every year, whether it be the 12,500 seat Dunkin Donuts Center or the 7,657 seat Ryan Center. In fact, game demand is so high that both schools try to leverage it by selling tickets to it only through multi game packages. If single game tickets become available, it is typically only done so in the 48 hours prior to tip and only if packages have not scooped them all up.
