C'mon, Moose. Dougie played football in high school for our Classmate. He wanted to be Crusader. You have to give him a little leeway.

I've met Flutie a few times both socially and working (sat with me when I was scouting HS hoop and he was watching nephews etc)...as much as I wanted to not like him, he's a personable guy. Darren howevah will always be known for uttering "I'm Darren Flutie, do I have to pay for a cup?" at one of our keg pahhties on Caro.....he paid

It was fun looking over both lists. I was surprised to learn that Amy Poehler is a BC alum, Class of '93. I'm a fan.

BC appears to have listed more recent alums. For instance, the much honored Speaker of the House, the great,Thomas P. "Tip" Oneill is not on the list as far as I can tell. This whole thread is sort of ridiculously petty. No? Bush league? HC alums don't require this type of comparison to know what we have. LoveHC An HC classmate worked at the Thomas P. O'Neill Federal Building right near the old Boston Garden when Tip was still alive in retirement. I used to meet my friend for lunch when I was in Boston and we'd walk over to the Italian North End for the freshest calzones I ever ate. The Federal Building had big "No Smoking" signs all over it but one time I smelled cigar smoke. My friend said that was from Tip going to the office he maintained there. Like Red Auerbach at the Boston Garden next door, those signs did not apply to Tip's cigar.

Is that where the name “Tip-arillo” came from? 😂
Edie Adams, Ernie Kovaks’ wife, used to hawk them as I recall.

I just wish Buffalo had started Doug instead of Rob Johnson in the Playoffs. Now that the Patriots are without a kicker again, Doug could probably still drop kick it for a field goal from 35-40 yards.

Not to deflate this thread, but which one of the HC alumni of distinction (or infamy) has a famous report named after him?

You have to give him a little leeway. comments made all in good fun. i have tremendous admiration for doug flutie as both a person and football player. i once read that in the HC v BC game flutie did not play that well although BC won the games. any truth to that??? p.s. I would not be surprised if Tom L steered him to BC knowing that flutie was capable of competing at that level (which he obviously did)

Flutie not playing well against HC? Not true, according to my late wife. We were at one of the Flutie games at Fitton, Flutie was dancing around avoiding tackles running and passing for yardage seemingly unstoppable. Wife: "Why can't Holy Cross stop that little guy"? Disgruntled Husband: "Yeah, I know." Wife: "I Iike him. He's fun. He's the best player on the field." Husband: "NOW LOOK!" We watched the rest of the game in near silence. LoveHC ok, thanks for the info. (sorry to bring back such painful memories)

Frank Crawford Armstrong, a relative of Bishop Fenwick, matriculated at HC in the early years. The only C.S.A. general to fight on both sides; IMO, certainly a very distinguishing attribute. He was United States Indian Inspector during the first administration of Grover Cleveland, and Assistant Commissioner of Indian Affairs in the second Cleveland Administration. The Secretary of the Interior said he was the 'best informed man on Indian matters in the public service'.

This whole thread is sort of ridiculously petty. No? Bush league? HC alums don't require this type of comparison to know what we have. LoveHC The post was intended to be sort of ridiculously amusing & fun, no? As another means of comparison--undergraduate vs. undergraduate + graduate. I do wonder how graduate programs will look in the next several decades, and as a comparison, Holy Cross as strictly undergraduate vs. peers who have moved into the graduate degree space. What we are beginning to see is a general decline in non-essential graduate programs (i.e. business schools) due to advances in technology, lack of degree necessity, coupled with the millennial generation already questioning the value of graduate degrees and fear of racking on additional student debt. I do believe Boston College is a strong institution and its graduate programs should be fine (decent enough law school). But other peers, Villanova, Providence, Loyola, etc I just don't know... Interesting read: poetsandquants.com/2019/08/22/apps-to-major-u-s-mba-programs-plunge-again/Surely in a down economy, applications to MBA programs generally rise, but it is now entirely acceptable to tell would be students "a top 5 school could be worth it, dont waste the time and money if not". I think our value prop strengthens over time in being undergraduate only.

LoveHC The only notably bad thing I remember Doug Flutie doing against HC was fumble his freshman year when all BC had to do was run 3-4 more plays and the game would have been over. BC was ahead by 4 or 5 points, I believe, and Flutie played well otherwise. Instead HC got the ball back and ended up turning it over on downs inside the 10 yard line. Some of you may recall that the week after the Hail Mary pass, BC and Flutie were faced with the same situation at the end of the half against HC; that is, time for only one more play and BC ball around midfield. But HC blitzed and sacked him!

Sacked a Heisman Trophy winning NFL QB? A few grandchildren, perhaps not born yet will have that story memorized by the time they get to HC.🙂
