Are we at a structural recruiting disadvantage to the other AHA schools or is it a matter of talent identification skills and player development skills of the coaching staff? We only won one league championship under Coach Pearl, if I recall correctly and he was considered a good coach. Is it a case where we can't compete for talented high academic kids against the Ivies and the little Ivies and Hockey East, and we can't admit the talented lower academic kids that other AHA schools can so we end up with less talented high academic players? Two titles in 03-04 and 05-06 with an additional tournament title from the old MAAC. Interestingly, we have not won a regular season or tournament title since Air Force and RIT joined in 2006. I imagine the AI and admissions requirements are a frequent issue for some. The prep school I teach at had many quality hockey players and good students but from what I hear, the best hockey players are too good for HC and the others don't have the grades to get in. We actually had a guy de-commit last year for UNH. This coincided with increased ice time and greater productivity. Some of the issues with AI appear similar to what we have discussed on here about football.
