MBB does suffer a bit from the past decade of being less than mediocre, the Patriot League, and the survival rate for coaches and ADs. This is easy to solve by putting more money into the kitty and going after an established coach. A search committee would not identify the candidate(s), but instead by the AD, a few BOT members, a few former players, and possibly Blaney, Willard, and Perry.
And, while this is unlikely to happen..... and you can call me crazy but
If we open up the vault, we could pay BBall and Football coaches a base salary of $500k with incentives to payout at about $700 total. You could find several talented and experienced head coaches available for hoops and probably keep Chesney for a few more seasons. If this were to happen, do you do something similar for WBB? These salary increases and bonuses aren't a significant change to the overall budget in the scheme of things.
The clock is ticking, and this might be the last chance to get it right for hoops and to keep Chesney for another 3-5 years beyond the next two seasons

Perhaps wait until we have an opening for a coach before hiring one? I know many are truly frustrated, but please do not disrespect our head coach by ignoring him as if he does not exist.

Agree that this replacement talk is premature but doesn’t appear to me that anyone here is ignoring the current coach.
We’re two games into the PL season. Let’s wait another month, at least, before speculating on potential replacements. Who knows? Maybe he’ll turn everything around? I think it’s highly unlikely but let’s see.

Fair statement RGS, but the relevancy of anybody in a role is attached to his/her success. This is unfortunate for Nelson, his family, and all that care about HC hoops, but he either delivers or we move forward

I have not been asleep The last 2 1/2 years Kaftan. I read the game notes for every game. Until the last couplff we of games there is usually a section on the coach and their coaching record at Holy Cross and career and some biographical notes. Fir at least the last 2 games there is no mention of Nelson. Astute observation. My guess is that this was on Charlie Bare (surprise, surprise). Nelson did not have the standard section on him and his coaching record / background (see below) going into the La Salle game since he missed that game due to corona. Once he returned, Bare probably forgot to insert this section back into the game notes. NELSON LEADS THE CRUSADERS: Brett Nelson is in his third season as the head men’s basketball coach at Holy Cross in 2021-2022, with an overall record of 10-45. This is the first collegiate head coaching position in the career of Nelson, who is the 18th head coach in program history. Nelson came to Holy Cross after spending five seasons on the coaching staff at Marquette University. During his five years at Marquette, including two seasons as associate head coach, Nelson helped the Golden Eagles to an overall record of 97-69 and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. Prior to his time at Marquette, Nelson was an assistant coach at Arkansas, Ball State, Drake and Marshall. A 2004 graduate of the University of Florida, Nelson was a three-year starter for the Gators and a member of four NCAA tournament teams. That paragraph is within reason. Some coach biographies are over the top.

I remember a coach at Yale, Joe Vancisin. Press notes at Payne Whitney proudly said Joe was the "winningest coach in Yale history" (since passed by James Jones).
Joe's career record was 206-242.
And at UNH, the all time winner was Gerry Friel, 189 wins. And he had a hell of a lot more than 242 losses, 335 to be exact.

Thanks. My list must have been a year or two out of date. Or I didn't scroll down long enough.

I know the coach speculation may be unproductive, but I can't help myself after another loss. While we have argued for Kosmalski, Gallo, etc...maybe Kit needs to make his one and only phone call to old foe Dave Paulsen. -- D3 Success @ Williams -- 4 Regular Season PL Championships -- 2 NCAA Tourney Bids -- 2 NIT Tourney Bids -- Recruited & Developed a current NBA Talent -- Won nearly 70% of PL conference games -- Left Bucknell stocked with talent, which led to Nathan Davis' early success -- Available for Work! -- Former Williams player under Paulsen, Michael Crotty currently runs Middlesex Magic AAU program (ie. Will Batchelder)
Seems like a good fit at HC....
On a separate note, Batchelder looks like a great recruit and I hope he brings much needed shooting. With no one else signed, we'll be leaning on transfers & development to dig us out of the hole. At some point, our horrific play will hurt us on the recruiting trail....

How many more years are we on the hook for Nelson ? I hope one more (four year contract) but could also be two more (five year contract) unless the concept of coaches deserving a one year Covid extension that I saw mentioned on Crossports, but was personally aghast at, was implemented by FADMB. But if that happened there surely would have been an announcement from the transparent HC Athletics Dept.

I wonder if he would or if he has too much residual loyalty to Bucknell. That said, if Hughes decides to makes a change, he should absolutely call Paulsen who would be a home-run of a hire. More broadly, that is absolutely the model HC should look towards the next time there is an opening. - New England ties
- Knows how to navigate admissions constraints (I would argue the most important skill at a school like HC)
- Can coach well

SoV and many other here would have called for Paulson to be fired from Le Moyne during his year 3. A good thing Willliams wasn’t so short sighted and launched a long career for Paulson.

No doubt Krikorian comes to mind, but the amount of time he spent with Lange is a negative for me.
