I wonder if Cleo and John McEwan established the solid footing for the program that excelled in the mid to late 30's under Anderson. I realize the college football recruiting landscape was completely different but that was when we were beating SEC teams with regularity. Joe Sheeketski associated with ND and Anderson at Iowa did a nice job in the early war years (including a win against LSU). Interesting era. I wonder how many players from outside the Northeast made it on our roster.

I wonder how many players from outside the Northeast made it on our roster. I would imagine "very few" would be the correct answer, I think George Connor, from Chicago, was an outlier. Maybe the ND association of Anderson, etc. gave them an "in" there. HC did have an advantage (believe it or not) over BC in those days as BC had no residence halls. An out-of-towner had to be a boarder of some kind.
