For any comparison to be valid, Joe has to kick the sheeet out of some All American like Mike did to Adrian Dantley. This thread is CrosSports at its finest. I have not heard the Adrian Dantley story. Please imbibe.

Legend has it Mike was interviewed after the ND game, and was asked about AD. His response was (in my best Puerto Rican typing accent) "Adrian Dantley, big All-American....I kicked da sheeeet out of him!" Maybe someone can find the stats from the game, which I think ended at 96-91 ND.

Five techs. FIVE.
My God, would have been an unbelievable game to be at. Thanks for sharing this.
I haven't heard a lot of anecdotes on "fiery" Carballiera over the years. What can the faithful share on him?

The first time I saw JP (prep game), when I took a first quick look I thought he resembled ole #22. I swore I would not mention this on the board, as I knew it would eventually lead to where the thread has gone. But - was I the one who brought up MV's name here first?? I honestly don't think I did. I think I may have been the first after watching the open practice in early October and that was based on his physical appearance which is so similar to MV and the fact he is a small forward. He was dressed for practice but didn't participate so it had nothing to do with his play. I get the whole thing about placing undue expectations on a kid but the comparison to MV hasn't really blossomed until almost 1/2 of the season was played and I think it is fair to say this kid can play and he reminds me of.... I am hoping at this time next year we are saying this frosh reminds me of Chris Potter.

Was at the '75 game vs. ND and the reports from both the ND student newspaper and The Crusader were pretty accurate--an officiating debacle. As Art Davidson mentioned in his article in The Crusader, that season and, particularly, the early games with UMass, Providence and ND, showed that the Cross was back. The next 5-7 yrs. became the best stretch of HC hoops since the early '60s when GB was a player.
As for JP, the start of his HC career has been impressive...and, while not comparing him to Mike Vicens after 15 games of his college career, there are certainly many similarities in their games. That will prove to be a good thing for HC for the remainder of his career.

Unusual for a winning coach to agree that his opponent was screwed by the refs. Wow, Holy Cross had so many very good players back then. When I was at ND (64-68), we had mediocre bball teams though we did upset Houston with Elvin Hayes and Don Chaney.

Time for Jeopardy Don Chaney is the answer to what trivia question common in MA basketball circles I give up, what's the answer? Who is the only person to play with Bill Russell and Larry Bird? Chaney was a rookie on the Celitcs in Russell's last year and hung around long enough to play a year with Bird

I loved the Professor's critical review of Three Penny Opera and the students griping over the 3 million price tag of the Hart Center. Did most HC students really use the Clark library over HC's?

Navy won twice. Holy Cross lost twice. They are supposed to be individual awards, but they come in context. Not saying it's right. Joe will be RoY. But I'm sure he would prefer wins to individual awards.

Yes, the voters for this award have always preferred players who won. In Deaver's case, Navy pulled out two close games - one in a pick'em game and the other in a road game where they were underdogs.
