The ivies emphasis in football is eminently clear - they should be playing all ooc games against 60+ schollie fsc programs (and that should include more caa schools). to see princeton, columbia and penn also in the top 30 on this list is impressive. that's 5 of their 8 schools with great classes. ...any changes at Columbia to warrant this....seeing the other two, given they were Ivy Co-Champs last year, isn't that surprising.

It's surprising to see Columbia doing so well in recruiting as its program is surely the least successful in D-1 history with no close second. Columbia did win 3 games last season, one of its most successful seasons of the past half century. Look at this record of futility over past 50 seasons: Number of wins-----Number of seasons O----6 1----15 2----9 3----11 4---5 5----2 6---1 7----0 8---1

Pretty sure it's for next year, but you're right -- it has been very difficult to find out any information about him. His Twitter page does not identify his high school or a Hudl page. Appears he is from the Jacksonville, FL area.

Appears he is from the Jacksonville, FL area. Class of 2021. Shown as attending LPA, which if for Jacksonville, stands for Liberty Pines Academy (school is only through 8th grade). At a camp, carried roster number 2. There are also two? Lincoln Park Academies high schools in FL. Unfortunately, more photos of the jersey fronts than of the backs. www.recruitbomb.com/jacksonville-2016/

His older brother (class of 2020) started high school this year. Make of it what you will. At least we offered before 'bama did!

Thanks for finding that article, breezy. I've reproduced it below. It's interesting to see some of the factors that influenced him to choose Holy Cross.
Destrehan High School alumnus Will Sirmon IV appeared to have missed his chance to play college football thanks to an Ill-timed shoulder injury that cost him playing time as a senior. But Sirmon found a way. And after taking the road less traveled — Sirmon played as a fifth-year senior at Phillips Academy-Andover in Massachusetts — he officially signed this month with Holy Cross.
It’s just a great feeling to finally have that happen after such a long time, all the injuries, coming up for an extra year of high school, everything I went through, to have all the hard work pay off,” Sirmon said.
Sirmon enrolled at Phillips as part of a post-graduate program that accepts 30 to 35 new students who enroll as one-year seniors. His prep career at Destrehan was impeded after suffering two tears in his labrum and a torn bicep in his throwing arm.
At Holy Cross, Sirmon will play wide receiver, where he spent most of his time during his senior year at Destrehan. He played quarterback before his injury and at Phillips, where he excelled after earning the starting job a few games into the season.
“I think it tells someone you can do whatever you want if you have faith,” Sirmon said. “You can accomplish anything if you work hard enough and have faith. I have faith in God that he’s put me in position for best for me. This school is a perfect fit.”
Sirmon said Holy Cross’ educational reputation was attractive to him, as well as the fact the Division I-AA program will play against number of FCS schools, such as Boston College, UConn, Navy and Syracuse. “The facilities are great. There’s a $100 million dollar new football facility that’s really impressive. And it’s also a Jesuit college. Being a Catholic, that’s a big part of it as well,” Sirmon said. “The church is on the campus. It’s good all-around and it’s exciting.”
Sirmon’s dreams of playing at the next level fueled him, but he plays for more than himself. Sirmon revealed the towel he wears for every game sporting a Superman patch alongside the initials of his cousin, Benjamin. Benjamin passed away at the age of three after a battle with the rare muscular disease Centronuclear Myopathy, which rendered him incapable of breathing, walking or speaking on his own. Superman was the nickname given to Benjamin by his mother. He was given a year to live, at best, but fought for three. Sirmon has dedicated his playing career to the memory of his cousin. He says Benjamin serves as his constant inspiration to take nothing in life for granted. “(The towel) was a reminder of who I was playing for and why I was doing it,” Sirmon said. “He was never able to do really anything on his own, and it makes you ask, ‘why would I be able to do all of this when he never could.’ Just watching him grow up every day, fighting every day, it was inspiring seeing what he pushed through.”

When did these schools leave the FBS? "Sirmon said Holy Cross’ educational reputation was attractive to him, as well as the fact the Division I-AA program will play against number of FCS schools, such as Boston College, UConn, Navy and Syracuse."

Bingo, indeed. That's why I was so surprised when some posters earlier suggested that the facilities would have little effect on recruiting. This is only one player, of course, but I'll bet he's not the only one impressed with the investment. I also like the Jesuit & Catholic mentions as well....

Anyone who ever said facilities won't help recruiting much doesn't understand the brain of most 18-year-old athletes.

As I indicated on another thread, I believe that the Luth AC/Hart Center improvements probably will have (or have had) a positive impact on football recruiting (with the indoor practice facility akin to those at some FBS schools and certainly superior to the facilities at most FCS/PL schools with whom we are competing for recruits). However, as I indicated in my previous post, I think the recruiting benefits will likely be less significant for our other four "major" sports---M and W basketball, hockey and baseball because the improvements related to those sports were less dramatic and because many other factors than facilities (e.g. league affiliation, recent program success, coaching, program tradition, style of play, etc.) play a greater role in a recruit's decision than facilities. Nevertheless, even if the improvements do not prove to be a major boost in recruiting in the 4 sports noted above, they should, at a minimum, eliminate any negative facilities factor and allow us to compete for recruits with other one bid leagues (MAAC, America East, NEC, Ivy League) more effectively on a comparative facilities basis.

I agree but not with the Ivy League. Those are the finest institutions in the country and should win most battles against the PL if education is important to the young man.

I agree but not with the Ivy League. Those are the finest institutions in the country and should win most battles against the PL if education is important to the young man. As you know, most of the PL schools are extremely strong academically. In one recent ranking, several were in the 40s and 50s nationally. www.forbes.com/top-colleges/list/. The Ivies, of course, are often in the top 10 so very tough competition for the academically-oriented kid but not insurmountable if we could get good at football again. Our facilities will certainly give us one significant advantage over most Ivies. Lastly, a smart kid who isn't a wild-eyed liberal could certainly be turned off by the academic environment at most of the Ivies.
