Just posted on Twitter: TE/DE ADAM BUCHANAN, 6-4, 240, of Buckingham Browne & Nichols School, Cambridge, MA. Twitter: @the BigA21 Hudl highlights: www.hudl.com/athlete/4473346/adam-buchananBuchanan previously had received offers from Bryant and PL opponents Colgate, Bucknell and Lehigh. No doubt BC will rush in with an offer before long. That wall they are building around MA will get Steve Addazios fired soon.

92 --
Good find. I saw that last night but in my opinion, I think it is more likely that this would be for this Fall. My checking last night indicated he graduated from Bishop Amat HS in California and may have initially gone to Utah before going to Citrus College. He was listed as a sophomore in the 2015 Citrus roster, so he probably has two years of eligibility left.

Further research reveals that he graduated HS in 2013, went to Utah for a year where he redshirted (he did play in the April 2014 Utah spring game and recorded an interception that he returned for 59 yards), then played the Fall 2014 and 2015 seasons at Citrus College.

Appears he will have 2 years of eligibility left. Will he be a member of the junior class (with his first two years' credits accepted)?

Appears he will have 2 years of eligibility left. Will he be a member of the junior class (with his first two years' credits accepted)? While far from an expert, I think he is a 4-2-4 transfer because he started at Utah. If that's the case, here are the requirements for immediate eligibility at HC: Division I 4-2-4 transfers in Division I must meet the following academic requirements to be eligible to compete immediately after transferring to the second four-year school: Complete an average of 12 hours of transferable degree credit per term of full-time attendance at the junior college; Earn at least a 2.000 GPA in those transferable courses; Have at least one calendar year elapse since leaving the original four-year school; and Graduate from the junior college.

I am not sure what a "4-2-4" means. I know students who attend JC an get and Associate's degree are immediately eligible with 2 years remaining (if they played in junior college.) Because of his 1st year at Utah, would he need any sort of waiver from the PL to play for that "5th" year?

Because he didn't play at Utah, I suspect he will have two years left without special permission.

Film looks good. Good size and speed at the JC level. Should translate to the FCS level fairly well I would think...

I love that Holy Cross is being so aggressive in recruiting. A great academic institution, a beautiful campus and facilities, a great athletic tradition, a great alumni base, a great venue to watch a game. Great stuff happening on The Hill....

Kind of a chicken or the egg question, but ... Does anyone know for sure if HC is being more aggressive this year (vs. say the past 3-4) or have we been recruiting this type of player only not getting too far with them and so we're seeing the results of the new emphasis on athletics - primarily the Hart Center addition. Or is the new emphasis and attitude in and toward athletics allowing us to be more aggressive? I imagine it's likely some of both but any ideas which may be the primary driver?

I can tell you they are being more aggressive. I can also tell you there are more offers out there than Breezy lists because some of the kids don't post it for or make it public knowledge for everyone to see. I think the new facilities are such a huge selling point that HC is jumping on this momentum while they can. I also believe there is a big commitment to athletics that I guess wasn't there for a long time. I think the latter is great. There is no reason why Holy Cross can't be exceptional in every department or program that they offer. It is a special place...

My thoughts -- unencumbered by any actual facts or knowledge. HC recruiting is definitely being more active in the spring season prior to the recruits' senior season. In part, I think it is a gradual progression as HC learns to recruit in a scholarship atmosphere; in part, it is also a sign of how recruiting has evolved -- first in the power conferences of FBS football and then a trickle-down effect at FCS. Some schools seem to have adopted the attitude of "offer everybody, and we'll sort it our later." I do think HC has allocated more assets to recruiting efforts; tweets over the past two months have seen our assistant coaches all over the map. I think the success of fundraising by the Crusader Athletics Fund has made it possible. The bottom line remains -- how many of these offered recruits can we get to actually commit and come to HC? We are starting to see some signs of success with some early commitments, but I think it will still be true that the vast majority of the recruits on the offer list will ultimately commit to some other school. We are still building relationships with high school programs which may bear fruit somewhere down the line. Having said that, there is one new offer reported tonight on Twitter. ATH JIMMY BATCH, 6-0, 150, of Merritt Island HS, Merritt Island, FL. Twitter: @jimmybatch7 Hudl highlights: www.hudl.com/athlete/3091675/james-batchRated 2* (5.3) by Yahoo/Rivals, and 2* (78) by 247 Sports. On Hudl, he claims a 40-yard dash time of 4.37. Numerous offers, including Army, Utah State, Marshall, Jacksonville, Columbia and Yale

Does an "offer" always mean that one of our coaches has visited the recruit?
|

|
Post by breezy on Jun 1, 2016 20:30:43 GMT -5
Does an "offer" always mean that one of our coaches has visited the recruit? An interesting question that raises an even more basic question -- what constitutes an offer? Unlike only a few years ago, most information about reported offers come from tweets -- very often by the recruit himself; sometimes by a coach or family member. We've had some earlier discussion about recruits saying they were "blessed" or "excited" to receive an offer, but much depends on the perspective of the recruit himself. Many recruits like to tweet about the number of offers they have -- "got my tenth offer today" or "got offer #12 today from XXX." It seems like a status symbol aimed primarily at their teammates or classmates. So, I imagine, there has to be some temptation to describe an offer as something more than it may actually be. I think, again without any real knowledge of what actually occurs, it is most likely that HC makes an offer only when it has had direct personal contact with a recruit and only if it appears that the recruit has the academic credentials to pass through the Admissions Office. But suppose a coach says to a recruit "we think you have the ability to be a productive member of the HC football team and we'd like to offer you a scholarship once we see your grades and SAT/ACT scores." Maybe the recruit considers that to be an offer, even though the contingencies of grades or test scores might never be met. Certainly any offer is contingent on getting accepted by Admissions, and there was an incident several years ago when a recruit was offered and committed and then was denied admission by the Admissions Office; he tweeted all about it (and then was accepted by another PL school). An offer can also be fleeting. There may be 5 or 10 recruits who get offers for specific positions, but once that year's quota for that position is filled, the offers to the other players at that position are probably withdrawn or at least become inactive. June is "camp month," and HC has five camp days scheduled at the end of June. Organizations that advise prospective recruits strongly advise recruits to attend camps so they have an opportunity to showcase their abilities. In short, I believe that the coaches have had numerous opportunities to interact with the recruits and their families during the recruiting process, and I suspect that there is probably some interaction before an actual offer is made.

I count at least 57 recruits to whom reportedly offers have been made. How many of our coaches make recruiting visits? How many total days are allowed by the NCAA for recruit visits?
