The Lehigh Football Nation blog has begun evaluating the 2017 recruiting classes of Patriot League teams (the "Patsy Ratings"). lehighfootballnation.blogspot.com/So far, Colgate is ranked 7th with a score of 48 and Bucknell is ranked 6th with a score of 53. As a caveat, the methodology of the Patsy Ratings is based on ratings by the recruiting web sites. Past experience has shown that such ratings are not necessarily a reliable indicator of how the recruits will perform on their teams during their eligible years.

And the ratings from recruiting sites play a relatively minor role. The majority is based on size of players, numbers of players, how many positions have recruits, etc. It has some entertainment value but little else. As you say, the rankings for schools at this level don't mean much. Bucknell has had a number of All-PL players in the past four years and most did not have any stars from any recruiting site.

A this time of year, entertainment value can be enough for any post. I have to agree the star ratings do not mean that much at the PL level.

System never intended to be other than summer fun with some meat for us to chew on. Historically not particularly predictive of individual player's careers. Surprisingly it does correlate somewhat with team success in subsequent years

LFN has continued publishing its Patsy Ratings. Georgetown and Fordham each earned 54 points and have tied for 4th place. 7. Colgate (48) 6. Bucknell (53) 4. (tie) Georgetown (54) 4. (tie) Fordham (54) That leaves Lehigh, Lafayette and Holy Cross remaining to fill the top three slots.

Lehigh has been slotted into 3rd place, with 56 points.
Lafayette and HC will duke it out for the top two spots.

Not gonna tell you #1. Why ruin the suspense except to say it is razor thin.

I am fully expecting that HC will be #1.
However, I will say that it is disappointing to see such low scores. There were years when the scores were in the 70s and 80s.

I am fully expecting that HC will be #1. However, I will say that it is disappointing to see such low scores. There were years when the scores were in the 70s and 80s. 2 issues I think. Late 90s ,early 2000s we had a larger niche for our band using need grants. No NEC schollies and Ivies had not amped up their recruiting. Also bigger rosters and bigger recruit classes. Heck most of us brought in 25-35 kids every year. Recall 1 yr LU had 31 OLinemen on roster . Overall does seem we are all bringing more talent per player now just much less depth. The smaller classes have a big impact on Patsy score. When I look at our recruit classes I weight other offers as the most important factor. Now our competition focuses on CAA, Service Academies and G5 schools. Ivy still there but not #1 as it was pre schollie.

Could you refresh our memories as to who are the three star players in addition to Bowler and Degenhardt?

Jordan Jackson from CA as a DE. I'm not sure of the WR 3* recruit. Tenio? Not sure although I have heard some good things coming out of him in the early part of the summer.
