Loyola wins, 84-80. Aldama with 22 points, 8 boards, and altered a number of Colgate shots, in and out of the paint.
Greyhounds' announcer mentioned that injuries have forced them to use eleven different starting lineups this season. But it looks like everybody is healthy now, and nobody will want to draw them in the tournament.

Bet Matt Langel doesn't want that. Fortunately for Langel, Loyola is fairly certain to advance to 7th place and move to the other side of the bracket.

Years ago, HC70 referred to B(oston)U and Loyola as the "iron" of the PL. Sooner or later, he's bound to be right.

If Loyola goes on a run and Aldama stays injury free, he’s going to get consideration for PL rookie of the year.
He has a very unusual (for PL) combination of height and athleticism. And offensive prowess. Would not be shocked to see him drop 35 or 40 at some point.

Joe himself is a unique talent. Sounds like from reading old stories he's been defying the odds for much of his basketball life.

And offensive prowess. Would not be shocked to see him drop 35 or 40 at some point. As a very talented player he should receive some consideration. However, playing in approximately 50% of the league games, it is unlikely he is considered for more than All-Rookie team. Also, this is Kostecka’s team, so imho it will be harder for him to gain individual recognition this year given his impressive yet limited contribution.

/\ /\ I agree (and I forgot those honors are released prior to the PL tournament).
Given the brief Aldama/Kostecka overlap (this year only) this might be Loyola’s best shot for a run. Forgetting the rest of the capable squad, those are two very high quality PL players on the same team at the same time.

Based on the limited number of games he's played and the presence of such an overwhelming choice in Pridgen there's no way Aldama will get serious consideration for ROY.

Lehigh’s game at Colgate has been delayed until at least 8:30 PM. A Colgate player shattered the backboard with a dunk just prior to gametime.

Frosh Cam Spencer looked great for Loyola...I had no idea he was Pat's brother (For the non-laxers: Pat was the top lax player in America last year and graduated from Loyola and is now playing very well for Northwestern in basketball (!) as a graduate student . Talk about an athlete.)

AU, Lafayette, Loyola winners. Interesting ending at Loyola. With Army down one, Tommy Funk drove to the basket and took some contact. No foul call, and Jimmy Allen ran onto the court to yell at the ref with 4.5 seconds left after Army fouled on the rebound. Automatic technical, which essentially ended the game. Had he waited to berate the refs, Army still would have had a chance to tie and send it to OT.

Time for Colgate to update their gym with portable hoops that are rolled into place behind the end line instead of the stationary hoops lowered from the ceiling. If the shattered backboard occurred at HC or Bucknell or any number of other schools, the shattered goal could be rolled out of the court and a new one rolled into place within an hour.

Rayman missed two late FT's, giving LU a chance to tie, but Cohen missed a tough step-back three at the buzzer.

He has his flaws, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was the pre-season PoY next year.

I think it's a little early to make any judgments on Aldama, he practiced for the first time on January 31 after months of inactivity and it's pretty obvious he's out of shape and had a lot of rust on his game. It should be more telling how he's playing come tournament time after he's been back in action for a month.

Obviously he’s got the sort of speed/height combo we don’t see in the PL (wherein 6’11 guys are almost invariably slow-footed) and his shot blocking/shot altering all over the defensive end is an eye opener. (Subtle point but last night he had just one foul in those 32 mins).
Offensively he’s very skilled and the fact that 14-14 Loyola is 5-1 in the 6 games comprising his complete college career speaks volumes. Colgate (the PL power this year) had absolutely no answer for him. This may mean less points for Kostecka but more W’s for Loyola. (This is not to suggest he’s at 100 percent or excelling in 3-point land or from the foul line thus far).

Army v Navy going to OT ... Funk's 3/4 court heave in and out for the W

Army may have set a record for most ways to eff up the last two minutes of regulation, up two possessions - four missed free throws; up three, fouled Davis shooting a three with six seconds to go; failed to get the rebound after he missed his third FT, and fouled him again, allowing Navy to tie. Horrible.
They deserved to lose, but coming out on fire in OT.

And refs' reliance on replay is running amok. There have been about ten stoppages of play in the last couple of minutes of regulation plus OT. These guys need to start doing their jobs and stop looking at monitors for validation every time they have to make a judgment call..
