In the 9 Super Bowls the Patriots have played in this century, they have scored a total of 3 points in the first quarter. Three. They've scored zero points in the first quarter in 88% of their Super Bowls.
Guess Bill Belichick, Josh McDaniels, Bill O'Brien, and Charlie Weiss have been completely unprepared for every Super Bowl they've played in and deserve an F triple minus.
Not a fan of the offense the last 2 years and the stat of poor scoring performance in the 1st quarter is certainly problematic and a piece of that discontent, but it doesn't necessarily mean they weren't prepared or the guy can't coach. It's the score at the end of the game that counts.

The URI OC job is a "better" job because success there would open up more doors than success at HC because of the increased level of competition. However, URI poses risks. Failure and/or head coaching turnover are much more likely there because of the regularity with which that program has floundered. Meaning that in 5 years we will be much more likely to be discussing Murphy landing somewhere as a position coach than we are to be discussing him taking an OC job at a MAC school. With regards to Murphy, I wish him the best of luck. If anything, he led our offense to repeatedly perform "when the chips were down" and in the clutch this year. That being said, I was completely unimpressed with him as a playcaller. He deserves zero credit for Cozier's breakout IMO. I would take Brian Rock over Murphy 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. His departure should be seen as an opportunity for this program. But isn't it tough to give him credit for this if the reason "the chips were down" was that our offense was completely unprepared for the game? In PL games, HC scored 0 points in the 1st quarter 3 times and 3 points in the 1st quarter 1 time. That's 4 of 6 games (67%) with 0 or 3 points in the 1st quarter against a weak PL with the PL POY on your team. Grade: F- What did the team score in the other two games in the first quarter? If HC was a poor scoring team in the first quarter (need the stats for the other 2 games before we make a conclusion) to what do you attribute our scoring in the next three quarters as we ended up the highest scoring PL team?

Meaning we averaged 2.8 points in the first quarter. Continuing to toss around "highest scoring PL team" as if it's the same as being the highest scoring team in the Big 12 is just silly. We were the tallest midget on offense in the PL this year, and that was almost completely due to Domenic Cozier, the best player in the PL. (See previously posted stats about the correlation between Cozier breaking a long run and HC scoring over 24 points)

Maybe another page or two and we may reach all the discussion we had about TG's firing or Chesney's hiring. Guys, he was an assistant coach . . . . . and he's gone. "Get over it."

Acting as if the highest scoring team in the PL was offensively inept is pretty much just as silly.
Also, in looking at game footage, it does seem that starting off the line (often with a slight hesitation) allowed DC to p[ick his spots and to decide when to accelerate. I wonder if that would. have worked the same way with the QB talking the ball under center?
PS: Where did you ever see anyone on Crossports other than yourself) try to compare the PL to the Big 12 or to any Power 5 Conference?

What did we do in quarters 2,3, and 4 to make us the “tallest midget”? Did we run cozier more in those periods, pass more, use more/fewer trick plays? What did Murphy do differently? Please show me where I suggested that being the highest scoring PL team was comparable to being the highest scoring Big 12 team. Find me that post and I’ll donate $1,000 to your selected HC team. You really should stop using that tactic.

I usually don’t complain but 7 pages? Do people here have jobs? Leave this young professional alone. He helped guide HC to some great wins and a league championship regardless of what plays he ran on first down. If I had to read bull#@*&$~! like this about myself and my profession from people who don’t know Adam about what I do, I’d want to look for a job elsewhere. Give me a break. I don’t know Murphy but if I met him at a bar I’d thank him, buy him a beer and wish him and his family well.

The Coaches convention is in Nashville this coming Sunday - Tuesday (1/12-1/14). My guess is there will be discussions around the OC down there as its a big networking event for all coaches. Wouldn't be surprised to see something by the end of next week on the position.
