Poor defense is HC’s Achilles heel. Too many players who are a step slow, leave their feet too much, etc. How many open shots and bunnies did Lafayette get. I didn’t check the play by play but it seemed to me we slowed down the Leopards and shaved about ten points off their lead when we went to zone for the last part of the first half.

The Lafayette broadcast team are definitely homers, but I think they call a decent game, for the most part.
Best guy in the PL is Navy's radio PBP guy Pete Medhurst and it's not even close.

Listening to Pete Medhurst on the Women’s game last Saturday was refreshing. From now on with Lafayette I will watch with the sound off, and go to D Lutsk for the audio, even if the audio and video is out of sync.

Missed the game. Is this the first time Lowder got in?

I tried that tonight, but since Lutsk was ahead of the video that didnt really work. In that case no audio was the best for this game

Yet Leone called HC "smaller and quicker."

Time for Coach Nelson to talk to Coach Chesney to see if Jackson Dennis or Mike Pizziketti would be interested in suiting up to give the team some bulk and height. We desperately need big bulky bodies underneath. It showed tonight. Sub them in for defense under the basket to go toe to toe with a Myles Cherry.

I always felt like the Leopards duo had good chemistry from working together for a long time, and they at least didn't hit you with high decibel Birdsong like nonsense. Leone just seems like he's mailing it in now, though, not really excusable for someone who is supposed to be familiar with the league. He didn't even pronounce Kostecka's name correctly until partner Gary corrected him.

I agree the announcers were unprepared. They did very little prep and knew nothing about our team. I watched the second half with the sound off on my ipad while my wife, my home from college daughter and I watched the Jeopardy Tournament of Champions. That was better than the second half.

There would be no need to complain at all if we were in the Big East, where we belong.

At 2-14 and coming off a 20-point loss to Lafayette it is tempting to focus on referees, announcers, venue, players from the near and distant past, future hopes for seasons down the road, etc. etc.

Lafayette deserves some credit, too. They did what they do better than we did what we do, if that done makes sense. . They do own a victory over a pretty solid Penn team.

There would be no need to complain at all if we were in the Big East, where we belong. Would we really feel that much better losing every game in the Big East? I don't think so. Of course, we would not have to see endless posts about joining Big East. Instead we would probably have to put up with endless posts about how HC should have joined a more realistic league (given. our academic standards and small size)

At least one of us received no video except many stop action shots. Had to listen to Lutsk

At least one of us received no video except many stop action shots. Had to listen to Lutsk I had a frozen site or a black screen for much of the second half. This happens far too often.

A couple observations from the game:
1. With the exception of Joe P I thought the first half was maybe the best I have seen them play all year. We shared the ball well which created a lot of open looks and we hit some big shots because of it. In the first half I started to see BN's coaching begin to impact their play - especially on the offensive end. I am encouraged that BN is not so rigid in his up tempo offense and man-to-man defense that he will try things to make a difference. The zone - although not always effective showed me he is willing to try different things to give this team a chance to win now
2. The second half we did not have the same intensity. With our youth and lack of depth we need to play with high energy for a whole game in order to have a chance to win and this team is not mature enough to play with intensity for a full 40 minutes. Our margin of error is small which just magnifies our shortcomings. I think they are learning (particularly the freshman) however, and the experience is going to pay dividends down the road.
3. Joe P experienced last night what is going to happen to him now that we are in league play and as PL teams game plan to stop him. You could tell he was frustrated and I am hoping this was a good learning experience for him How he adjusts to the way teams defend him and how he finds other ways to score will be an important part of his development.
4. I feel for AB. He is doing whatever is being asked of him. He is an example to other guys on this team of the intensity needed for a full game in order to win. If the younger guys win a championship in a few years they can thank AB for the time they played with them.

One minor quibble with the Laffy announcers (don't get me started on Stadium other than you get what you pay for), they announced both while it happened and in replays that one of Joe's shots was blocked (not sure how it was scored) but at least to me it clearly showed the shot was NOT blocked but rather Joe got out of position and his shot simply hit the bottom of the backboard. Kudos to the Laffy defender for getting Joe in an untenable position but the shot was simply a desperation shot that was errant, not touched by the Laffy player.
OK, carry on.
