Three generations of Andreolis have contributed greatly to the sports scene in Central Mass.
On a possibly related theme, I just heard a radio news report that costs for the $90 million Polar Park 10,000 seat stadium in downtown Worcester have risen by $29 million. Per ticket facility fees, parking fees, etc. are all going up and the Park hasn't even been built yet.
Boy, does that make the 3000 seat gem of a baseball park at Fitton Field look like the steal of the century. Built for a few hundred thousand (?) as I recall and paid for by the now defunct Worcester Tornadoes but owned by Holy Cross.
It would be nice if the Hanover Insurance naming rights could be renewed or re-sold to another entity and the revenue split between helping the Worcester Bravehearts survive the WooSox and supporting the continuing improvement of HC baseball and softball.

The T&G goes into this cost increase in great detail. www.telegram.com/news/20200110/polar-park-costs-increase---adjustments-made-to-cover-added-expenses$10 million of the $30 million is higher construction costs, to be paid for by the team. $20 million of the increase is associated with land acquisition, etc., to be paid for by the city. Ticket surcharges are in store, such as the city imposes for the DCU.

This was predicted way back on this board. Was low-balled from the get go.

The WooSox are going to have a goldmine...for awhile. Hard to tell when the shine will wear off or if it ever will. But a 10,000 seat facility right next to the DCU 11-13,000 seat facility that is both heated and air conditioned and has a roof when it rains or snows and is also owned by the city might cannibalize whatever large event business there is to be had in Worcester beyond minor league baseball games.
Having said that I have no problem with HC staging a "Crusader Winter Classic at the Polar Igloo" hockey game underwritten by Polar Beverages the first winter the Park is open. I think HC should embrace and partner with the Railers, WooSox, Bravehearts and everything else in Worcester when they can.
