I can’t say this comes as a shock.

Not surprised - after I am saw him dancing around near the end of the second half when the team was getting beat badly in the Bucknell game.
Maybe his wish to transfer has something to do with the games in which he didn't play due to "coach's decision".
Well, it looks like AB is going to play more at the PG out of necessity and Reilly is back in the mix

Massive culture problem with the program created by years of neglect from the Carmody regime.
It will take years for Nelson to rebuild the culture of the program (along witty talent, fundamentals, etc.).

What a mess this program had become under the watch of Pine and Carmody.
Nelson has a tough job and challenge on his hands trying to pick up the pieces and get this thing started again.

Believe nothing that you hear and half of what you see. Lots of rumors on the board today.

Believe nothing that you hear and half of what you see. Lots of rumors on the board today. If Lowder didn't want to play by Nelson's rules -- and it certainly seems there were issues there with his benching and Nelson continuing to reference "attitude" and "unselfishness" -- then I say goodbye and good luck. He's not bigger than the program and the culture and rules Nelson is looking to instill should apply to him just like they do the last guy on the bench.

This has likely been brewing since early in the season - helps to explain Nelson's ongoing interest in 2020 recruits, including point or combo guards.
Good bye and good luck.

With the semester starting next week, wouldn't be surprised to see another scholarship player leave this week - and report of one or more new 2020 commitments soon.

I would suggest you watch the second half of game on the PL Network Archives- if still available. It was during a timeout when there is usually music playing in the arena. Even, Bucknell's clueless announcer (Birdsong) made a comment about how great it was to see Drew having fun out there - although, at the time - HC was getting beat

Carmody signed 16 players to scholarships over five years.
So far, 6 of those players did not finish their career at HC -- 3 thrown out, 3 transferred.
The potential 4-year players who Carmody recruited: Zignorski, Le Sann, Copeland, Butler, Niego, Faw, Hargris, Verbeek, Wade, Pridgen.
It would be difficult to manage a program worse than that.

Besides the worry that the reports are unsubstantiated, why are we so flippant about this happening? Or at least saying "see ya?" Isn't this guy one of our more highly-regarded prospects (if there even are any to compete for that title)? Contributing as a freshman?
I follow the team through this board, so I don't have the details... I saw all of the coachspeak about benching because of maximum effort and all that... we're teaching a player a lesson, but how much of a hard line can we toe with a flailing program and a lack of true D1 ballplayers? Was this really un-fixable? Will Nelson bite off his nose to spite his face?

Let's not kid ourselves- if at the end of the Dan Allen (no offense to him) era, combined with the terrible record; if things were this bad culture-wise, they might have terminated the program.
Given that transfers TO Holy Cross are rare even in the best of times, climbing out of this hole will take years.

Some of us try to figure out what's going on with this team based on board chatter. Most of us, I think, watch the team play, and try to figure out what's going on by what we see on the court.
But I'm pretty sure none of us have any idea what practice is like, and Nelson's expectations ( and distribution of minutes) clearly has come to have a lot to do with what he is seeing (or not) in practice.

Massive culture problem with the program created by years of neglect from the Carmody regime. It will take years for Nelson to rebuild the culture of the program (along witty talent, fundamentals, etc.). your blaming carmody for 100% of the problems with this program and absolving nelson of responsibility for any of the issues this year is beyond tiresome. i don't think there's anyone here that wishes we still had carmody leading the program, and most of us are long on nelson, but at least some of the blame for this season's woes have to go to nelson, who had never coached a game before... and it shows at times. if lowder is transferring, any rational person would conclude that some of that would have to do with the unusual way that nelson is handling the point guard minutes. unless lowder is raping and pillaging off the court, of which there is obviously no indication, i can understand why he may wish to transfer to a program that plays its players who perform the best in games and/or in the positions that they were recruited to play. lowder transferring would be one of the most devastating blows to the program in years as we will be playing without a pg the rest of the season, have no incoming pg recruits, and have to start all over again next year with a total unknown. an unknown who at this stage, is unlikely to be as good as lowder, barring a surprise transfer. we know how you feel. saying the same exact thing for the 9,392,918 time doesn't make it any more accurate, it just makes it more annoying to read the same thing over and over again.

Wow! The best recruit in years, and we can’t keep him!
Guys, stop with this let him go and we are better off without him!
This program stinks and continues to stink!!
Leadership and coaching is terrible, we are near bottom of D1
This is another embarrassment.

Was this really un-fixable? Will Nelson bite off his nose to spite his face? i am similarly perplexed at the universal trust in either lowder OR nelson. lowder may be selfish, though it doesn't show in his on court performance. nelson may be justified, but how do we know? he has never coached a single game or managed a program before. it would be one thing if it was an experienced coach who had been there, done that. nelson's allocation of minutes - a player will start and play 30 minutes one game... and be DNP coach's decision the next - is unlike anything i've ever seen in my decades of playing, coaching, and following games. playing the team's best sg/sf at pg when there are several point guards on the roster, one of which nelson recruited, is also unusual. maybe nelson is a genius with this unorthodox approach for a first year head coach. i am trying to believe that and think he will be successful in the long term. but this is a very dangerous game he is playing and he has literally no track record of prior success of doing so, which has me pretty concerned for now.

Dado, we don't know what kind of kid Lowder is/was like in the locker room, film room, practice, classroom, etc.
For all we know, he didn't deserve to see the floor at all due to a bad attitude and/or anything else, and Nelson actually was going against his better judgment because the team sorely needed him out there to be successful.
Lowder could be similar to Devin Brown when he was a freshman. Came into HC with a bit of an ego and struggled adapting to Willard's rules and culture (as I recall, Willard was on the verge of throwing him off the team), but fortunately the upperclassmen quickly got him on board.
I'm speculating, FWIW, but so are you with Nelson's reasons for not playing him bigger minutes and benching him on a few occasions.

We just had 4 years of Carmody playing players who “perform the best in games” with no regard for anything else, and that is exactly why we are in such a hole as a program. Nelson was essentially in an impossible position with a kid who was clearly recruited with the idea that he could do whatever he wanted on offense and would not have to earn his playing time through other areas. Nelson’s trying to build a program from scratch and allowing a freshman who is not playing the way he demands to just do whatever he wants without any repercussions just so we can maybe win 7-8 games this year instead of 4-6 is absolutely foolish. Nelson is clearly focused on more than just a player’s shooting or scoring ability, which is exactly what this program needs right now. The program is better off with players who want to be here and want to play the way Nelson demands. If Nelson is not capable of winning under those circumstances, he will certainly be held accountable.
