Not much new here
Coach Diggins was one of the very few holdovers from Dick Regan's drive to have all full time coaches. Coach Diggins still sells insurance in Worcester. From the class of '86 he's a little young to fully retire, so I assume he is not retiring from insurance

WORCESTER — The driver of a van involved in the Jan. 15 crash in Vero Beach, Florida, that killed College of the Holy Cross rower Grace Rett has been cited for a right-of-way violation.
Patrick Diggins, the women’s rowing coach who announced his retirement late last week, has been issued the uniform traffic citation by Vero Beach police in connection with the crash that killed Rett, a 20-year-old sophomore from Uxbridge who had been sitting in the passenger seat when the team van collided with a pickup truck on Indian River Boulevard. Several other students were injured, some seriously.
According to a copy of the crash report obtained by the Telegram & Gazette, police concluded Diggins turned left at the intersection to go over the Barber Bridge while only having a green light and not a green arrow. The team van was then struck by a pickup driven by Ronald Wolf of Vero Beach. Since Diggins only had the green light and not the green arrow, he failed to yield the right of way, police said. Police estimated in the report that Diggins was traveling 22 miles per hour, and that Wolf was traveling 43 miles per hour when the crash occurred.
Diggins’ lawyer, Christopher Lyons, noted in a statement Tuesday that the investigation concluded no criminal charges should be filed, and that his client has been issued a civil citation.
“Patrick continues to be grief-stricken about the loss and impact this accident has caused so many families,” Lyons said in the statement.

The report indicated Diggins asked police in the moments after the crash whether he had the green arrow before making the turn.
One witness quoted in the crash report told police he was driving south, in the same direction as the team van, when he saw the crash. He told police the light was green, according to the report.
Stephanie Ricker, the team’s associate head coach, was in another team van five to six car lengths behind, and told police she saw the light was green, but there was not a green arrow. She said she saw a vehicle turn left when a gap in traffic opened up, and that Diggins followed that vehicle through the intersection within the same gap.
“She said that she felt Patrick was being aggressive by trying to get the van through the intersection within that same gap and she cringed, because she thought that Patrick was pushing it, to get his van ... through the gap behind the other vehicle,” the report stated.
Rett had celebrated her 20th birthday the day before the crash. The team was in Florida for winter training at the time of the crash.
The College of the Holy Cross said in a statement tuesday that the school will continue to offer support to students, coaches and their families in the months ahead.
“Our hearts continue to be with the Rett family, and with all who have suffered physical and emotional injuries as a result of this crash,” the college said in the statement.
Reporter Jennifer Toland of the Telegram & Gazette staff contributed to this report.

I feel for Diggins. It was just a spur of the moment driving mistake. People make them all the time. Most times, they are just close calls. He had the misfortune of that not being the case here along with the fact that he had all these young women in the van. I am sure he feels horrible and is going through a lot of emotional pain. I hope that he can find some peace.

Haven't had any luck finding out, know Ms. Comcowich's mom and would like to know how she's doing.
If I stumble onto anything that's acceptable to post, I will.

My sense was that first girl who was transferred to a hospital in Massachusetts may have gone to Spaulding Rehab in Boston. IIRC, her injuries were mainly limb-related. Comcowich was the second, and the last one, to leave Florida for hospitalization in Massachusetts. spauldingrehab.org/locations/spaulding-rehabilitation-hospital

For what it's worth, Coach Diggins grew up and still regularly attends my parish. As of last night, his name is still included in the pray for the sick portion of the prayer of the faithful. I know he wasn't in the last two released, but he was still in the hospital down there when many had been released

Am I the only one here who finds the taking and showing of pictures of the van to be grossly inappropriate ?
I just read that even worse pictures were taken and released to the media of the helicopter before the gruesome remains of Koby and the other victims were removed.

I just read that even worse pictures were taken and released to the media of the helicopter before the gruesome remains of Koby and the other victims were removed. There's a long running weekly TV show "Beat the Press" on Boston's PBS station. They debate questions like this. Often the panelists, all media veterans, say it is legitimate news and as gruesome as it looks, the principle that one picture is worth a thousand words is true in allowing the viewer/reader to understand exactly what happened. In this age of Google, one news cycle should be enough to run the photos and then provide a link if someone hasn't seen them in follow up stories.

From the story, it appears she is still using a wheelchair and only started talking last week. This is such an incredibly sad story. The video of her teammates, her neighbors, and her high school friends welcoming her is a testament to the value of community whether on a team or in a hometown.

Yesterday was the first week since the accident that Coach Diggins wasn't prayed for at Mass
I don't know if this means there was an actual change for the better this week or if the parish staff is catching up with stuff as people start to return to Mass
