Probably? Probably? There is no doubt. From the Championship pick 'em thread ... And then there were 2, JMU-NDSU....which most people would have predicted in August. Two semifinal blowouts by both squads. The game isn't until next Saturday 1/11 at noon on ABC. A hearty few remain here... probably going to need a tiebreaker, so we'll go with picking the winner and by how much they win by....Price is Right rules in effect (closest without going ovah) FCS National Championship Game on January 11th, Frisco, TX Noon Eastern Time on ABC: James Madison vs, North Dakota St Believe KY and I both picked the Bison. He had NDSU by 6. I had them by 7. I wasn't a math major, but last I checked 7 is closer to the 8 point margin (without going over) than 6. And you can't just bail out until September. I hung around for weeks investing time & effort picking winners in this interminable playoff that I barely remember Holy Cross played in it and couldn't name more than 5 teams that played in it! You've been awarding cool stuff on a somewhat regular basis in this contest for years. And now you just want to run off until September?? Where's my gift certificate to the Rum Keg Pub? Where's my preferred seating at Herbies? I demand to know what I won.

Instead of just going by total number of winning picks, I think that there should be another category, for those who have the greatest % of correct predictions. This would allow those of us who missed a week or two to still compete. This years winner using that methodology would be yours truly.

So if you see a tough slate of games looming you could then skip that week and avoid the likely hit to your W-L pctg?

It appears you missed the first week of picks, Chu. I went 4-4 that week. Compare apples to apples and look at the record over the next 4 rounds CHC8484: 12-3 Chu Chu : 11-4 Appears I still beat you! But I'm not a heavy drinker so, if you're at the post game reception in the field house, or Lower Kimball, or the Luth, I'll give you one of my free drink tickets!

One possibility to consider--to keep people interested in the competition if they do miss a week--would be to have a default of "all home teams". In that case, if you do miss a week you might end up with, say, 3-1 instead of the 4-0 that many others would get. Of course, I do know that you could get lucky and go 3-1 when the median is 2-2 but those instances would be very rare. The same logic could be applied to our basketball and football regular season competitions

KY, nahhhh!
Chu is just out of luck. I was on hiatus and missed the beginning of football season and just wrote it off as far as competing in the prediction contest.
No way should a missed pick default to all home winners but does bring up that I almost posted I was considering not trying to analyze the games (not like you do, KY) and simply pick the home team regardless of who was playing who just to see what the results would be. I'm not going to do that but I am sure that someone can very quickly see if someone had picked all home teams from the beginning of the PL season, where he or she would be in the standings.
I will say that I am very impressed with our friend from the '67 Class who is leading the pack as I am pretty sure he has not gone to many (any?) games in person. So, he's basing everything on whatever games he sees on our sterling PL Stadium shows. That, or he has a great Ouija board.

There was actually very little attrition during the PL regular season pick ems....on average, maybe one out of 30+ week to week or so,, many weeks none. We are a very committed crew.
