Reportedly making the jump to Division 1 --
Looks like another local opponent in sports.
Good or bad?

Assumption University must feel like they have bad breath. Many of their traditional rivals are deserting them and the Northeast-10 conference and D-2. Perhaps giving D-1 hockey a try in the AHA would be a logical way for the Greyhounds to dip their toe/paw in D-1.

Maybe the Greyhounds should try Milk Bone Dog Biscuits if they want to keep up with their former rivals 🤣

Have they been INVITED to a conference yet??
Low-level Division I is getting a bit oversaturated in New England, particularly in the state of Connecticut.
Who's next -- St. Anselm? Bentley? AIC?
Seems like all around the country high-end DII are all trying to make the jump to DI / FCS.

Bentley, which already plays D1 hockey, had been much more talked about making the jump before any other New England schools.

Just in New England, basically since the turn of the century, I can think of these teams jumping up to D-I U Lowell Merrimack Bryant Quinnipiac Sacred Heart

Besides having an ambitious AD, what does the University of New Haven offer the low-level Division I sports landscape in the I-95 / I-91 corridor where you already have (in addition to the larger presence of UCONN & Yale) Fairfield, Sacred Heart, Quinnipiac, Central Connecticut State and UHart?
What niche would New Haven fill for the Northeast Conference?

Springfield College won the President's Cup every year for a decade before moving down to D-3. Assumption had never had a sniff of the President's Cup, kinda like HC in the PL. What's in the Worcester water?

Why not add "established" DI school NJIT to balance out the conference at 12?
I suppose they are looking to get to 9 football members as well for a more balanced football schedule. 8 conference games = 4 home and 4 road whereas with 7 conference games, the home/away split is uneven.

What's in the Worcester water? Springfield College caters to athletes, not a shock that they would dominate something like the President's cup. The vast majority of Phys Ed teachers in MA are Springfield graduates. I have a cousin who coaches there. One time I told him about a relative thinking of attending and the first words out of his mouth were "What sport does she play?" It's a very athletic culture

Gymnastics back in the day. The SC swim team played HC during homecoming weekend 2019. I watched during halftime of the MBB game. It was competitive. A friend earned a Masters in Rehab Counseling at Springfield College. Along with Assumption they were the local school for that. Without going to Wikipedia I will say Dr. James Naismith taught Phys Ed at Springfield - could be wrong.

I put my question in the wrong place...I meant, was Assumption any good in anything other than hoop?
Yeah, you're 100% right about gymnastics.
Spfld was D2, not sure why they moved down. In the late 60s/early 70s when HC played them in hoop, it was a tough game.

The biggest drawback is that you can only have one female on smurf turn at any one time. (Any old time surf fans out there?)
