Yah they also have a 5 star commitment from another kicker in HS. Seems to me if you watch him on Twitter - classic case of a kid just wanting to go FBS.
He does market himself very well.

Think one or both might now look again at Mt St James for a home?

If HC has scholarship money - possibly.
I don’t have a clue if they plan on signing anyone next Wednesday. By my count if zero Seniors return for the fall they would still have 4 roster spots to fill.
Question is - do they have scholarship money left.

Absolutely right -- how much scholarship money is still available?
Another question -- there are 5 senior OLs on the roster, and there are 3 OLs who signed in the early signing period (and an OL added to the roster by transfer), so is OL still a position of need, or is the staff focused on other positions to use any remaining scholarship money?

Except for Hoyas, all of us are asking the same question. Throw in the possibility of an indeterminate number of seniors returning and it is impossible to even estimate. Gilmore still adding WOs. 2/3 will be interesting for PL. If last year is any indication, there will more after 2/3.

I am glad I do not have to work that out. After all, that is why they pay our coaches the "big bucks." And I am relieved that I have confidence in Coach Chesney and his staff to make such decisions.

Other than the initial financial inability/unwillingness of a few schools there is no current valid reason for a 60 cap.Could the PL modify the cap now? Sure. I hope Council does. Dont think it will.

Kenneth Borders who decommitted from Laf verballed to Georgetown. Gtown has another solid class. They must be offering some money. Because two years in a row two solid classes.

If GU has the will they certainly have the way with a lot of $ and the top academic profile in the PL. See the Ivy recruiting with need based aid (better than the PL schools with schollies)

Hasn't Georgetown had problems growing its endowment? Does the school, or its athletic department, really have deep pockets?

Is there a loop hole in the determination of merit vs need aid? Merit would include athletic as well academic [non athletic] merit aid... so schools which renounces athletic aid, a la the Ivies, combine need aid with non athletic merit aid. I believe HC has an endowed Classics scholarship that is award to a freshman every 4 yrs or so. but because we recruit/give athletic aid to football players, a frosh QB with a Classics schollie would be counted as athletic aid.

Trust me, the bigs would have academic scholarship winners on their respective squads every year; in addition to the 85 football scholarships.

Hoyas have had 4 very good classes. Last 2 spectacular. How? Actually its more about the Admissions Dept than money. It is evident that HC has gotten a better arrangement now than he had 4 or 5 years ago. You should be aware of the damage an overly restrictive ADept can wreak on a program from TG's time here. Each year the coach will ask for a set number of slots for his recruits. That enables those recruits to go thru the admissions process in a separate pool. They still must meet school and PL guidelines but they are not competing with all other applicants for a seat. For many years Hoya football did not get any slots. All recruits went thru the normal process. Hence,Hoyas didnt announce their classes until April. Over the last 3 years, GU has been announcing their recruits simultaneously with the rest of the PL. Recruits must be "admitted" prior to official announcement.GU Admissions evidently has agreed to allot slots for football to enable a separate pool for their admission. Need aid and GU's deserved academic rep are more than adequate to bring in strong classes. Merit aid is included for all recruited players. With covid closures there are very few "recruited" players as there hasnt been much in person contact or offical campus visits. Merit aid to non recruited players does not count vs the 60 cap.Coaches are using this loophole to get better WOs. A high need recruit or exceptional student who can play is a diamond.

I find this to be very positive for the league - we need better football quality across every team - I do not want to look at the NEC ahead of us any longer and we have to reach for regular success in ooc games

The GU Admissions Dept. is very forgiving with their athletes and then they have classes and tutors to help them navigate the four years of college life. The rest of the student body are held in a different light. The school makes this operative policy for their athletic aspirations. This is not a knock on their decision to remain an attractive college to the 18 year old high schooler. Location and weather are certainly positives for the school as well.

The Ivies give neither athletic nor academic merit aid. They do give need-based aid. HYP (I cannot speak for the others and I cannot speak for GU) treat athletes and non- athletes identically in terms of determining need-based aid.

What is the better arrangement HC now has that didn’t previously exist? Until Pine came on, Gilmore and Admissions were at war.AD wpuld not release enough slots for football. Moreover, AD would deny admission even to recruited players with a slot. Lehigh got a few of those.Another to Nova. Bucknell got one. There may have been more but those are the ones I heard of back then.
