Soon AFA (if they haven't already) will realize Nate Pine is a smoke and mirrors Athletic Director. No substance, just all social media garbage.

Doesn’t Air Force football sellout their games?
Why should this event have caused such headaches?

Speaking of Nate, he made the peculiar decision to extend the contract of their men’s basketball coach, Dave Pilipovich, despite him never having better than a .500 record in the MWC. In fact, his only above .500 season as their coach was in his first year (18-14).
I guess Nate has a thing for coaches who have done nothing but lose in their conference.

They kept the ice down in the stadium and the AFA played Colorado College last night and lost 4-2 in front of a manageable crowd of 7800

The decision to hold the game in Colorado Springs was made while Nate Pine was still at Holy Cross. Not a venue I would have chosen, given there is only one highway in and one highway out. It appears the NHL belatedly realized this.

FB fans understand you get to games early. Hockey Krishnas - not so much- but I guess that's NP's fault. Gillette has limited access too- so that shouldn't be an issue. Accident on hwy from Denver exacerbated the probs, but I guess NP was responsible for that too.

OK, we have NP as a scapegoat for something that has nothing to do with HC. Check. Now how do we get to blame Coach Carmody as well?

Accident on hwy from Denver exacerbated the probs, but I guess NP was responsible for that too. Good point -- I was wondering the exact same thing as SOV, given that a crowd of 40,000 shouldn't be anything unusual compared to what AFA is used to. Another difference. Air Force football probably draws a crowd consisting of the corps (who live on campus), alum, service members and opponent fan base that come from a wider geographic area, fly in to Colorado Springs and stay at local hotels. In addition to obviously having some extent of a local crowd as does Army in Metro NY. In contrast, the Avalanche fan base are for the most part all driving up on the afternoon of the event from the Denver area on the same stretch of highway. As far as concessions, I could definitely see an NHL crowd consuming far more alcohol per capita than a more family-based service academy football crowd complete with Boy Scout troops, youth groups, pee-wee football teams and the like. Plus the college football tailgate crowd is consuming more of their own prepared food in the parking lot while the urban professional millenial hockey fan has Starbucks and an edible on the ride up, walking into the stadium ravenous.

Colorado Springs has a population of 472,000 (estimated 2018)l El Paso County (where Colorado Springs is) has an estimated 2018 population of 715,000. As nyccrusader2010 suggests, most of the attendance at an AFA football game is probably local, and not fans who trek down from Denver.
At the football stadium, all the parking lots are grass. Most academy games are played during the dry season, so muddy parking lots are not an issue, as they apparently were for the NHL game.
There is one interstate highway from Denver and one interchange for the stadium (unless one drives south and backtracks). At Clemson, one of the main highways (four lane) leading out-of-town becomes one-way post game. This is a state highway, however, not an Interstate; I doubt one could convert an Interstate to one-way traffic for a sporting event.

This should be a non-story.
Let's see....lot's of people on roads not designed for it. Can't see why there'd be delays....

Having been on that stretch of interstate from Denver to Colo. Springs, it's two lanes in each direction much of the way. I was out there a few years ago for work and I wasn't driving. The person driving was local and I asked him about traffic and the area, and he said on that particular stretch of highway, if there's an accident you're completely screwed. There isn't an alternate artery you can divert to if the interstate is mucked up. No equivalent to a Route 9 or Route 20 that you can jump onto like when the Mass Pike is a "disastah."

Per phreek, this whole deal was inherited by Pine.
2-3 posters here obviously didn't read the linked article.
And nobody seems to have read the part of the fatality that occurred at the main gate post game.

I've been keeping track-- we have now had, on multiple threads, 894 posts on Nate Pine since he left the job. We have the all-schools message board record for most posts about a former administrator; four boards for other schools are tied for second place with 12 posts.

Same applies to many kids who either never set foot on HC campus other than a recruiting trip, or bailed on the school that handed them an excellent free education worth about 300 large.

Click-bait title of this thread should be changed.
Otherwise a nationally-relevant story in the sports world, at least for those who follow the NHL.

Doesn't reflect well on the NHL and the Avs specifically. It's their event, not the AFA.
