One of the worst telecasting decisions ever made was ABC not televising that game live. Many of us stumbled into the final score before it came on the air- a good hour after the game ended.

One of the worst telecasting decisions ever made was ABC not televising that game live. Many of us stumbled into the final score before it came on the air- a good hour after the game ended. What would've been the reason given that it was played here in a US Time Zone? Maybe a sport that typically gets higher ratings during the Olympics was happening concurrently -- figure skating? Nowadays with all the affiliate networks, airing multiple sports live at the same time is easier (NBC / NBC Sports, etc).

The game was played in the afternoon(guess TV did not have its current clout) ABC wanted it on prime time

5pm was puck drop. When host Jim McKay went on the air just before TV broadcast at 8pm, he made reference that while most of the US already knew the outcome, he wasn't going to say and spoil it for anyone who didn't.

One of the best 30 for 30s is a retrospect on that game from the Soviet point of view.
The end of the game on Russian radio is classic.
