A 7’ center with New England ties, Russell Tchiewa, has entered the portal. He was a frosh at Texas Tech last season and played prep ball for Putnam Science Academy. He hails from Africa. Looks like the the recruiting services pegged him as a 3-4 star recruit coming out of PSA.

Tchewa likely out of our league. In the unlikely event he misses CT, I’m sure UConn would find a spot for him. He’ll have plenty of suitors. Seems like just about every school in America has at least one open spot, particularly for an athletic 7-footer.

This was retweeted by our own Mike Rabinovich: Looks like Mitch Doherty is off to Laramie Community College with four years of eligibility left. Twitter page says he was given a medical redshirt for his year at Albany.

I don't think I need to do any research to be confident that Mitch Doherty is the first Worcester Academy grad to enroll in Laramie Community College.

Twitter page says he was given a medical redshirt for his year at Albany. I don't believe that twitter report is accurate. First, he played in a game at Albany as recently as January 22nd - which would preclude him from getting a redshirt since it was well after the midpoint of the season. And secondly, he was not injured at all according to Will Brown. Simply left the team for personal reasons.

Portal up to 700, a week ahead of last year I'm sure that number has gone up in the last week...700 would be roughly an average of 2 players per division 1 team....That seems so absurd, I'd guess the NCAA will find a way to slow those numbers down....

I think we’d see a short-term benefit from guys who enter the transfer portal this year being eligible in November 2020. Beyond that, not so much.

That's my take too. I think that rule for one or two years is inevitable. Best chance to defeat it going forward is to concede that

ADMB said on his webimar 900 in the portal so far this year. 1100 last year. The equivalent of ~70 entire teams 2000 players over this year (so far) and last = 2000 / 350 teams = 5.7 players per team. I'm sure the two year average per team will be six over the two years by the time this year's portal closes. Ridiculous.

Ridiculous. how does it compare to the student body I don't know, but I would assume that the vast majority of kids outside the major sports are at HC because of the school and they also play a sport. Some, not all but some kids on major sports are here to play that sport and HC is just the name on the jersey. Much easier for that kid to pick up if they're trying to get a better sports experience, while not caring as much about the total experience being left behind

Wouldn't the denominator be much larger in that case?
