As of today, the number of 2021 girls who have committed to D1 basketball schools is 202. 3of the 4 HC ‘20 commits verballed way before April of ‘19. The ‘interim’ tag and now the delay in the hire is hurting the program.
Inevitably a coaching change hurts recruiting in the year of the changeover, regardless of how long the search takes. And that's without a global pandemic thrown into the mix.
Well, if the thinking by MB was "I want someone else but if she wins the PL tournament I gotta keep her", then, yes. Or if he simply was on the fence about her, then, yes as well. If he knew more or less when league play started that he wanted to go in another direction, then, no. Could have had the hire more or less ready to go when he cut ties w/AM.

Fair. I suspect in a pre-pandemic world, he was probably willing to give AM the benefit of a full season to make his evaluation. Coaching searches usually happen in March/April anyway, there's only so much you can do in advance. (Identify a wish list? Sure. Reach out through back channels to gauge interest? Possibly. Anything beyond that gets problematic.)

I think I have to fall in the camp of being annoyed with the whole "nationwide search" mantra. "Closer" seems to produce the same results and a lot faster.

So what is HC, or any school for this matter supposed to say?
"We're limiting our search for the next coach to within the 508 area code". ?

Why say anything except the job's open? The coach can come from Tatnuck or Tatamagouche, who cares where and how hard they looked? Meaningless until games start being played under the new management.

Not directly related here but on a previous page of this thread it noted that Vic Schaefer was hired as the new coach at Texas. I wonder if this impacts Katie Benzan who is scheduled to attend UT as a grad transfer in 20-21. Maybe she doesn't fit into his plans and she's asked to look at other options.

Welcome aboard in advance. You will probably need a second bachelor's degree in a whole new subject for a post-Covid world. Don't mean to be flippant about such a serious virus, but if Ms. Benzan doesn't fit in Austin she would be a perfect fit in Worcester if only we could arrange a suitable course of studies for her.

Suitable ‘advanced’ degree programs are not available at HC as we all know - if not UT she’ll find a similar landing spot - she is a legit high major talent

A mocking bird whispered in his ear. Like his thinking about saving money. If the chosen one is still on staff somewhere else, why not stay there until June 30 and then go on HC's books on July 1.

Just who is the person that Holy Cross now has (according to Finch)?

This Finch character must have some close contacts in the biz - I heard from ADMB on the recent podcast that he did meet 'in person, 8-10 feet apart' with a prospective coach so that might be the one. I support announcing the new coach asap, as it's time to start building relationships with the players, even if only via 'skype' - I know budgets are tight but this hire probably comes in the essential category (assuming we're a serious D.1 program)

After the interview a round table discussion comes on with AM, Coach Amanda B. and some women athletes and coaches which is also informative. AM's parents were born in Ireland and she didn't get the chance to play sports until her mother took a trip home to Ireland and her father took her to softball tryouts against the mother's wishes. Reminded me of my just off the boat Grandfather being instructed by my Grandmother in 1908 what name to name my father at the Christening which she was too sick to attend. My Grandfather instead named my father after himself but didn't have the courage to tell his wife. My father didn't learn what his real first name was until he attended first grade at the Parish school and the Nun had the Parish records.

Well isn't this an interesting development. I always thought Leblanc was content being at Merrimack especially with her success as a 1st year D1 program. I do think the timing of this is perfect for Ann McIenerny. Leaves the door open for her to return to a program that she helped build. Of course Merrimack needs to feel the same way (things might be different up there now) but seems like a perfect fit.

As an aside, I know in one of these threads, mention was made of Katie Benzan whether the coaching change at UT would result in her going elsewhere, the answer - Yes, she sighed today w/ Maryland

UNH, perhaps because of a hiring freeze, has not replaced Magarity yet. Either that or they hired the interim coach and haven't changed her title on the website.
