Had the pleasure of meeting her at the CAF golf outing last summer. She seemed like a very enthusiastic young lady who was well-liked by the players. At the risk of stating the obvious, endowed coaching positions are a key advantage for the Ivy League. Congrats to Casey.

All you need is enough money to endow the position.

What is the formula, x X annual salary? 10X? 20X?

The income from the invested funds must cover all (or most) of the annual coaching salary.

$2.5 million endowment at a 4.5 percent distribution would pay a $112,5000 salary. About 23x.
To grow the endowment so that the distribution would cover increased salary in the future, one either hopes smart investing grows the endowment value by more than 4.5 percent annually, or a small portion of the endowment value is reserved for re-investment and not distributed.

I'm sheltering in place. I can't get to the bank right now.

I wonder why I have never heard of a solicitation from HC to endow a coaching position. Depending on which sport is targeted, such a campaign might be successful. I know that donors may designate which sports are to receive a person's donations, but that's not the same thing as a dedicated endowment for coach salary.

Those solicitations have to be made directly to someone who has that amount of money to donate and likes seeing and hearing his name everytime the head coach is written about, quoted or introduced.

HC will be happy to create an endowed position . Jim Kavanagh’s position has been endowed for about 20 years.

I know that donors may designate which sports are to receive a person's donations, but that's not the same thing as a dedicated endowment for coach salary. I think HC's Development Office sees you more as a target for funding a new building rather than a lower level coaching position.
