Interesting he is a freshman qualifier-wonder what that means for Admissions
he could be more qualified than our other recruits and roster, but the way it was expressed is interesting

Absolutely outstanding--takes 6 free throws a game and makes 5 of them. HC as a team took only 10 free throws a game this past season, as we have discussed many times.

In addition to the offers that WooGray mentioned, he has had interest from Binghamton, FDU, McNeese St., Mercer, Northern Colorado, Omaha, Robert Morris and UMKC. Went to Sacramento Jesuit HS

Kudos to the staff for this truly out of the box approach to looking for talent to fill out the roster. It's apparent that they are leaving no stone unturned in their recruiting efforts. I don't believe we've ever used the Juco route as a source of talent prior to Nelson's arrival.

Totally agree. Credit to Nelson and staff.
Might he / they be taking a page out of Colgate’s book?

A 3 up and 29 down season forces a different recruiting strategy.

Totally agree. Credit to Nelson and staff. Might he / they be taking a page out of Colgate’s book? Why not do so. Taking the JUCO route could allow the staff to bring in as many as 7 new student-athletes without overloading the freshmen class with 6-7 recruits. An added benefit is a kid who has finished his 2 years of jc is eligible immediately. Not sure about a kid like this one who is finishing year one in terms of having to sit out a year.

King verbally committed to UMass-Lowell on June 27 last year and re-opened his commitmentt in July 8. He then reported offers from Hartford on 7/16 and Youngstown State on 7/27. Not sure what happened. He had already burned his prep year so that wasn’t an option. Maybe got caught taking too long to accept one of these offers and was left with no options other than the Juco route.

Is there any way to gauge the level of competition vs a D-1 average? Also, did he have a size advantage that he wouldn’t have in PL or do JUCO teams have ample 6-8’s and 6-10’s, regardless of skill level?
I’m not negative on him—just trying to get some perspective on the comp.

I seem to recall a JUCO transfer in the early Blaney years—-I think his name was Larry ? but I don’t believe he ever played—maybe something happened between signing and the season. I may be completely wrong

I do not know anything about Cali JC’s, but he did well vs the few strong Opponents of IMG that I could find during the 2018-19 season. He also played at a solid level of AAU comp.
