Her husband has not been on her staff for two seasons now and has moved on to something else presumably - we are moving forward fully anticipating a 20-21 season

Fingers crossed for next season. This is still just a rumor from Atticus Finch but it's starting to sound logical.

I like the hire. Young, personable, strong connections to her student athletes. Could see her doing well and staying for a long time. Liked the comment about how appreciative she was that her Dad kept the same job during her childhood. UNH is an absolute coaching graveyard for basketball (see Herrion, Bill who went 167-71 at Drexel and is 187-265 at UNH).
They were 33-87 in the four seasons prior to Magarity’s arrival so .500 seems a little better in that context. We’re not going to get someone with a strong winning record as a D1 head coach. We’re either going to get someone with D1 head coaching experience who doesn’t have a great career record or we’re going to get a D1 assistant with no record or a D2/D3 head coach who has a strong record. There are risks with all of those groups. I think Magarity will be a good fit and provide some much needed stability to the position for many years to come. It’s all about recruiting. Hopefully she finds HC to be an easier sell to the young women she wants. Two of her three current assistants are UNH grads. Might need to diversify the staff a little.

Time will tell if this is a good move or not. I will say that she has recruiting in the same waters as HC as there are a number of players on the UNH roster who HC also recruited, Story, Soucy, Gogolin & in coming center Cote

Let me help...you don't need time. If she's the new coach, this is a great hire

Glad you love her. I hope I do too. She will have a challenging season ahead unless the Frosh are able to contribute right off the bat and the injured don't bounce back.

Oh, I do Ray, no matter who is coaching next season it is set up to be a difficult one. Her first test obviously will be to re-recruit the incoming players and keeping the current players in the program (unlike others, I think the last 2 classes been pretty decent but injury riddled). The good news is that I believe she has a good relationship with both Davis & Power's HS & AAU coaches which should help.

Her very successful season in 2016-2017 (26-6), and winning records in 2014-2015 (17-12) and 2013-2014 (19-12) show what she is capable of. Her UNH teams split with HC in the last 2 years. She won 74-62 at UNH two seasons ago and lost to HC at the Hart (82-61) in 2019-2020.

Doesn't the "live free and die" State have nepotism laws for State Employees? If HC has anti- nepotism rules and a hiring freeze, would we be making two exceptions to the rules to hire a coach with a losing record while gearing up to furlough other employees on July 1st? Sounds a bit off. Perhaps the husband won't accompany her. Doesn't sound like good employee relations in a non union shop to hire two from one family while laying off existing workers. "or die" not "and die" I was a Granite Stater for 10 yrs.

Before I overlook it...if this move has been made, I want to both welcome Coach Magarity and to thank Coach McInerney for all she did for the Cross and for her players.

If the Magaritys still live in Nottingham, NH it is about 1-1/2 hrs from Worcester. That would probably necessitate a relocation of residence. That would probably invite a significant increase in pay.

However, I have a close friend who lives across the river in very liberal Vermont and she likes to call it "Live free AND die" because of the lax government regulations. It is amazing that the states could be turned upside down and fit into the same jig saw puzzle places but they are so opposite in political philosophy with Vt. Personified by Bernie Sanders and NH by the Manchester Union Leader.

I believe her husband works in Boston so relocating here they can probably find a place to make his commute more manageable. Unless he rejoins the staff. Here is a thought that might be crazy but is plausible. Since her Dad I believe is 70, I could see him retiring from West Point and joining her staff is some fashion. Perfect time to relocate and be closer to the Grandkids. Also, her Dad and former coach BG are friends. I wonder if anyone reached out to BG for information before she accepted.

Brown announces a new hire on Good Friday and we don’t - they could have waited a day but it probably did not enter their collective mind what today is - I’ll stick HC’s priorities

I googled "Magarity" AND "Holy Cross".
No pertinent matches. Only references to the UNH coach are from them beating HC a couple years ago. Most references are to her dad.
Nothing on the HC or UNH websites.
This isn't necessarily a done deal, not that I have any objections.
