Since our staff has looked at several players from Canada, it piqued my interest in high school hoops north of the border. The only things I know about basketball in Canada are: the Toronto Raptors with Malcolm Miller, won the the NBA title last year, former HC coach Jack Donoghue coached the Canadian National Team and former HC player Ryan Serravalle is from Canada. I have no idea what high school hoops in Canada is like especially in comparison to high school/prep school hoops in the US. I did see at a site called North Pole Hoops that the top 11 players in Canada are going to Power 5 schools plus Harvard and there are 22 Canadian players, (I assume native born), currently in the NBA. Anyone out there familiar with hs ball in the Great North?

I know nothing about it. My guess is that it’s got a handful of very good players but the depth is not what it is in the basketball hotbeds in the US. Don’t know if these top guys play AAU vs US competition. I’m assuming they do if they’re ending up at P5 schools.

In the big cities, esp Toronto, it has become very popular and highly competitive. RJ Barrett from Duke and now the Knicks was the highest rated Canadian recently. Jack Donohue was in the forefront of hoops renaissance in Canada.

This guy Steve Nash from British Columbia was pretty good at basketball.
Speaking of British Columbia, Canada actually had TWO NBA teams for a few years. The Memphis Grizzlies originated in Vancouver. Their first draft pick was Bryant "Big Country" Reeves. Reeves actually starred in the first college basketball game I remember live, beating UMASS in the 1995 regional final at Nassau Coliseum.
