You're right. I stand corrected.

Four returning scholarship players, seven new, two open scholarships. If either DL or JP have a stumble in their transfer efforts, do you offer them a scholarship at HC?

I would not initiate an offer. If they came to me and said that upon further reflection, they want to stay at HC, I might consider an offer depending on what I thought of their explanation as to why they were changing their mind. I don't see that scenario playing out

Definitely with Joe P. I would be recruiting him to stay at HC right along with the coaches from other schools that are recruiting him to leave.

Joe P is not coming back. Nelson and staff had a month to make the case to stay. He chose to enter the portal where he will have other very good options.

Other options...certainly. there will be other options, I feel they will not be "very good" compared to Holy Cross. Of course, I am hardly an objective observer.

I can feel your message. However, if the prodigal son received a welcome on his return, could we not offer the same open arms to Pridgen?

With the portal you can't legally talk brass tacks with any new coaches until you enter. I'm not sure it was set up to be a divorce proceeding only, I think there is room in the process for it to be an exploration, and if mutually agreeable, a return home. The current school doesn't have to enter the recruitment process for the player in the portal, but they aren't prohibited either. Coach Nelson can't make the claim like Colonel Klink from Stalag 13 that no one has ever escaped his team, so he shouldn't be worried about losing face or losing "his" team if he enters into the recruiting for JP once JP has a chance to evaluate all the other suitors.

Certainly the number could rise, but 12 is low. Interesting that the roster, not the photo, from last season has 12– no Hargis, Lowder or Lovisolo Last time we had only 12 was ‘05-06, not counting the revisionist roster from last year

Answers any lingering questions about whether Copeland might be back. Nice to see Reilly still there as well as Hart.

For those who believe there is still the chance of someone returning (I don't), Niego's (a much-in-demand single digit) and Pridgen's numbers were not reassigned. Lowder and Copeland's were.

HOWEVER, only 5 can play at a time!

13 scholarships and 1 or 2 walk-ons. Injuries occur frequently enough that you're always going to lose 1 or 2 from that starting point. Having kids quit or get tossed in the middle of the season is more of an outlier; but the last 4-5 years it's been the norm.

Interesting read....lot of "old school" HS coaches were of the "5 and die" philosophy i.e. basically keep your starting 5 in there for as long as possible.
It obviously depends on your rostah, but for HS, I really don't think you need more than 7, maybe 8 guys most games. The blowback though comes from the players families, possibly administration etc

It is tough though with only 32 minutes to divvy upah.

Should be lots of competition at the guard and forward positions, good for developing an effective roster.
