Juggle positioning as you will . . . Assume Copeland is gone and Reilly's status still uncertain.
PG - Johnson, Reilly* SG - Wade, Humphrey, Montgomery
SF - Butler, Martindale, Townsel
PF - Faw, Niego, Pridgen, Hart (walk-on)
C - Coulibaly, Rabinovich
* Scholarship?

Based on everything I have heard or read from various sources, I am 98% certain that Joey Reilly is a scholarship player.

Am I correct in believing that if Reilly is on scholarship, we then have the max of 13 scholarships and Copeland would not be returning?

Yes but
Still nothing on Copeland transferring or taking time off from school in the DC press or his social media.
Would be interesting if he returns and we learn Reilly is not on scholarship-unlikely but an interesting twist

Would be interesting if he returns and we learn Reilly is not on scholarship-unlikely but an interesting twist I can't say I'd be thrilled about someone returning that's done so little in 3 years, whatever the reasons. Would rather it was true that Reilly had the schollie. Or, better still, that he didn't and Copeland was not playing (hope he finishes at HC, however, given he's spent 3 years there).

Things are definitely looking promising on paper.....but we're still going to need to be patient; lots of integrating needed. And with what's going on, experienced teams may even have more of an advantage next year; at least early on. Still, feeling some good vibrations!

Scholarship players by class:
2021 (2) - Butler, Faw 2022 (1) - Townsel 2023 (2) - Wade, Reilly 2024 (6) - Johnson, Humphrey, Montgomery, Martindale, Coulibaly, Rabinovich
2 left to spend before September if we wish. If we hold both, we would have a 4 person class next year. Not ideal to have 10 players combined in two consecutive classes but nothing about this is ideal. If we can’t get anyone with immediate eligibility, maybe get a sit 1, play 2 guy to pair with Wade and Reilly and make that a class of 3. Hold the other one for next year to make that a class of 3 as well.

Good reasoning under old rules. Unfortunately with the advent of the Transfer Portal all bets are off that the classes will remain intact.

The new world order might suggest you use them while you have them unless you have four talented 2021 recruits willing to commit now

Sometimes it is through adversity that teams really begin to gel- we can only hope that is the future
On a more sobering note, Jim Gray was on tv yesterday and said the NFL is probably good to go, but college football and possibly basketball are more problematic for the fall and winter

He reiterated several times the importance of contributions to CAF.

What happened to the asterisk? I think pretty much everybody has given up on the theory that Reilly was a walk on Which is just very surprising to me. Nelson seemingly pushed a few scholarship guys out of the program who were either fringe D1 players or didn’t fit the system he is seeking to implement. Does Joe Reilly fit what Nelson is looking to do? Maybe Nelson was desperate for a guy who may or may not have been able to play PG last season because he didn’t want Lowder shouldering the load himself. I hope Reilly makes me eat my words and makes some great strides heading into his sophomore season.

Perhaps because he signed him, there is a commitment on his end

Near certain that Copeland isn't returning. From the horses mouth - he will NOT be on the team next season. So, not "near certain" - certain . . . . . . . unless all those new guys Nelson is bringing in all come down with Coronavirus and Nelson is forced to try to convince him to come back or some other equally unlikely scenario comes up. So, yeah, ACTP, you are probably right "near certain" but Kyle himself doesn't expect to be back. I've not been following this closely and can't tell the players without a scorecard but hasn't Nelson already filled the roster with Kyle's spot?

You talk about his spot.. Does this mean his scholarship ? If so, and he is returning, he must be paying.

Whether or not Copeland will be on the roster next year, we shouldn't assume he has already left school.

That's not what I heard... he said they were planning for multiple contingencies, from a normal fall, to a delayed start fall (10/1-15 range) to no fall sports at all. I don't recall that he placed likelihoods on any of them. And really, the only answer at this point is "nobody knows", anyway.
