ACC Statement: "The ACC Council of Presidents made it clear that the core values of this league are of the utmost importance, and the opposition to any form of discrimination is paramount,” commissioner John Swofford said. “Today’s decision is one of principle, and while this decision is the right one, we recognize there will be individuals and communities that are supportive of our values as well as our championship sites that will be negatively affected. Hopefully, there will be opportunities beyond 2016-17 for North Carolina neutral sites to be awarded championships.” It'll be interesting to see how schools like UNC and NC State respond to this decision. Duke and WF, as private institutions, can and have denounced the bill and supported the move. As state-funded schools, UNC and NC State have to toe the line between encouraging diversity, etc. (backing the ACC) and not ticking off the state administration.

I'm a Providence fan and just a guest here, but to me this story and thread should definitely stay here on your basketball page.
A really great thing with this for non-ACC sports fans is that Duke and Cheatin' UNC lose their home court advantage in the NCAA Tourney. At least one of those teams plays the first two rounds each year, every year, in the state of North Carolina. This past 2016 tourney, the Friars played Round 2 in Raleigh vs the Tarheels. Gimme a break.
Also, as far as alternate sites, i think the ACC was hosting the games in NC in 2017, and because they just moved their other conference finals from NC, the NCAA might try to find another ACC host. i think Boston (hosted by BC) is out because of the Hockey East finals that weekend.
If the ACC-host thing is off the table, then Worcester i would think of as a solid possibility. Your arena seats 12k in a great central location.

If I had to bet, I'd say some event will get moved to UVA, capacity 14,500 or thereabouts, not dramatically far from NC.
Fla State is around 12K, Va tech, miami and ga tech too small.

Katz reports that Providence, South Carolina and Furman have applied to host the first and second rounds of the NCAAs Go Providence - Although they might be a long shot after hosting last year. Also moving it so South Carolina (including Furman) keeps the planned geographic spread

The CAA just pulled it's women's golf tournament out. Talk about some serious economic sanctions...
