Any idea how many applications we received in our latest class? Over 7,000. A few less than last year, more than in 2018.

/\ I think we filled up about half our slots via ED last year...so a wild swag tells me if things are about the same and significant ED kids don't back out we are looking to fill 380ish slots from the 7000. Quite a challenge to accept the right number to ultimately yield about 380ish in a very uncertain year like this. Waiting list is a cushion to make up shortfalls if necessary.

An awful lot has happened in our world since those '400 accepted ED' commitments were made. And this Friday May 1st will be a HUGE day for many schools including HC. I predict months of shifting forecasts for the size of the incoming class of 2024.

Early Decision is generally a bad practice (binding admission means no second thoughts) and speaks to schools that suffer on yield. Penn is well known for admitting so many early...because they will lose even more to H-Y-P in regular decision. Much like the Common App, it's tough for some schools to say no to 100% yield in ED.
