Interesting. It lists Secondary responsibilities (40%) of which Recruiting is 30%. What is the remaining 10%?

Or, they have a good candidate lined up already and are only carrying out faculty contract obligations.

I have a possible minority view on hiring in this situation. Fill the open position with someone you know and trust, but don't throw two young career BB coaches out of work just to replace them with two other young career BB coaches.
Since all direction of the program will be coming from the head coach, how much difference does it make who the second and third assistant is if they have a similar amount of BB experience and training as other applicants for the same position at the same pay?
Wouldn't the relationship with the players of the existing staff be hard to top at the same pay with new staff?

Perhaps I misunderstood this situation, but isn't this just a person to fill the spot that has been absent (de facto) for months now?

Yes, but it is unknown if the new coach intends to replace the two holdover assistants.

Yes, but it is unknown if the new coach intends to replace the two holdover assistants. I'm inclined to think that since they are still listed, as is the DBO & the 3 of them still list their status as HC coaches on their tweeter accounts that they have been retain. Not a huge surprise as last season both Fitzpatrick & Healy were 1st yr coaches & Kirpas yr 2. Time will tell I'm sure, but I would think that since MM has been on the job for a little over 2 weeks, they should by now know their long term status. To be truthful, I'm surprised there has been more turnover, perhaps there will be.

Kelsey Hogan was Magarity’s #1 assistant at UNH. She is the interim coach there but presumably would follow Magarity to HC if she isn’t going to get the permanent job at UNH. She’s pretty young (2014 UNH grad) and has not had any exposure since high school to a coach other than Magarity (she graduated and immediately transitioned to a UNH assistant) so UNH may not be comfortable giving her the keys at this point.

I agree, however, I seem to recall that one of our posters seem to think she had the inside track on the UNH job & they were going through the required process to name her. I'm sure will know shortly.

Sorry, guys - this is serious D.1 basketball and a new coach does not retain asst coaches because 'we don't want to push out these nice ladies at this time' - I would be very surprised if coach Mo does not bring at least one new asst to replace one of the holdovers. There likely will be a different philosophy in how our program will go forward and any new head coach needs to bring in her own staff. If the holdovers are interviewed and retained because they share our new coach's style of play etc.., then Mo can make that decision based solely on basketball philosophy (not the present health environment)

Great to see all the smiling faces, but would be a little happier if Faulkner was included.

She's appeared in 27, 17 and 18 games so little chance of a medical redshirt and transfer with two years of eligibility. Perhaps "the troubles" on the HC coaching staff could qualify for an exemption of the sit out a year after transfer requirement, but I hope she graduates from HC and provides a valuable contribution next season. Coach Mo you are on the clock. Show you can improve a BB program without losing any Holy Cross student athletes.

Yeah, I noted that MBB listed their frosh but WBB didn't. Perhaps more urgency on the part of Coach Nelson so the roster wouldn't so forlorn.

Probably best to update once after you get all the incoming players re-committed (or not). We could also have some irons in the fire on some late signees.

I don't pay as much attention to the women's program.
On the men's side, Coach Nelson kept one Carmody assistant. A volunteer video assistant was elevated to DoBo
Coach Carmody kept one Brown assistant (one year only, then he was gone)
Coach Brown kept none of Kearney's assistants
Coach Kearney kept 2 of Willard's assistants (the third already had a head job somewhere else)
Coach Willard kept 1 of Raynor's assistants (one year only)
I would kind of expect the new coach to bring in her own people with maybe one continuity holdover. Getting rid of most of the old staff seems like the established practice, even if it means firing assistants who did a good job.

You will note that Faulkner did not participate in the zoom meeting above, nor was she a part of the zoom picture on the women's twitter page when the new coach introduced herself to the team - I have stopped trying to figure this whole this out.

Is it possible that the commitment by Holy Cross to keep all faculty/staff/employees paid through to the end of the fiscal year (6/30/2020) has anything to do with at least temporarily retaining assistants at least until then unless they leave on their own for other places?

Financially, no because the assistants would get paid to the end of their contracts which I believe end on June 30, which was the date quoted in the T&G for BG's contract. However there is a commitment from TPTB to Holy Cross employees until June 30 that everyone is probably eager to support. I myself don't see the sense in HC using it's money to compete with the enhanced unemployment benefit of an extra $600 per week in cases where the employee would be better off laid off, but that's why the only thing I'm administrating is the lever on my recliner.
