Fr. Boroughs told the class there would be a more traditional commencement in the Spring of 2021. Given that this was said during the same virtual ceremony in which Dr. Fauci appeared and spoke, and reading tea leaves, this likely suggests that the "cautiously optimistic" graduate of the class of '62 believes enough of the country will be vaccinated to allow very large gatherings to be held, with social distancing practices relaxed by then.

Fitton Field could handle a crowd of a couple thousand sitting six feet apart and the country would probably be more adept at pulling those gatherings off by 2021 even if there is no effective vaccine. There would even be space for each person to open an umbrella in case of rain. A 120 yard field including end zone could handle rows of sixty grads sitting six feet apart. Twelve horizontal rows six feet/two yards apart might fit inside the hash marks for a 720 person graduating class. Families would have to slowly file in and out six feet apart. Final class academic rank would decide which families waited the longest.🙂
