Suit was filed in Connecticut. The college has moved to transfer the suit from CT. state court to Federal court, i.e., the Southern District of Florida. Suggests to me that there are other lawsuits and these are being consolidated. Probably the S. D. courthouse at Fort Pierce, which is 10 miles south of Vero Beach.

No surprise at all. Just hope the facts stated in the police report are indeed the facts and justice is meted out accordingly.

Was Coach Diggins certified to drive the van? What certification do you need to drive that? Last I knew, there was none. The school might have a driving certification program but never heard of one for driving a passenger van.

I remember when I was in high school, in order for a teacher / coach to drive a van to and from a game, he needed to have some kind of certificate to do so. I imagine that was done to protect the school from any liabilities like this.

I don't know if HC has any specific rules, but a regular driver only needs a standard driver's license to rent a van of this type from any standard rental car company.

There was no such certification in the old days. A license was good enough. Not HC, but there used to be a van that shuttled between the consortium schools primarily driven by WPI kids. I'm not sure they all had licenses.
The link says to get a certification to drive a campus vehicle. Does a van rented by the college 1200 miles from Worcester count as a "campus vehicle"?
Coach Diggins goes to my parish. As of last weekend, he was still being prayed for by name during video Mass. In these crazy times it might just mean there was no one around to remove his name from a list or it might be that some one out there thinks he still needs our prayers. A little off topic, but since someone started a new accident thread, I thought I'd throw it out there

Prayer is a thing we can all do in times like these.
Driver certification varies y state. When I drove a mini-bus for my high school teams in NJ we needed a bus driver's license (even for a van). The road test was taken in the vehicle you would be driving. There are 2 levels of bus driver licenses in NJ - one for a max of 15 passengers, the other for anything later. The number was based on the ability to carry passengers, not gthe actual number of people on the bus.
