[ A great honor for a man who doesn’t get the respect or appreciation he deserves ! He’ll wear a 😷 and throw a strike! A question for all the distinguished alumni on this board is Dr. Fauci the most distinguished alum of your fine institution?

In response to UNH: Two medal of Honor winners, Dr. Murray wins the Nobel prize for medicine for the first kidney transplant, Father Healy historically revamps the education system as president of Georgetown. Dr. Fauci certainly one of the best. We have had many greats!!!!

In no particular order, Clarence Thomas, Joe Califano and Edward Bennett Williams are our most distinguished IMO.
The Nats first pitch is a fun thing and certainly would be a blast for me but as ‘honors’ go, would think it’s way down Fauci’s memorable moments in life list.

Maybe, but if you read today's NYT article Dr. Fauci is being subjected to a storm of hateful (not to mention mindless) attacks. Apparently he is getting a lot of these hateful comments texted to him on his cell phone. Throwing out the first pitch is, if nothing else, a well-deserved moment of recognition for his steadfast commitment to public health. I understand he's also a baseball fan so perhaps he's been in the hallways of NIH working on his two-seam fastball.

If he's as smart as we know him to be, he'll throw a 4 seam fastball. More control and less movement than the two seamer and therefore, more likely to hit his target.

I bet on an unintentional changeup

I bet on an unintentional changeup That's pretty funny!! Remember when the honoree threw out the "first ball" from the stands to the catcher, rather than the "first pitch" from the pitcher's mound? The first ball makes so much more sense to me, as in "here's the ball you need to get the game started. Play ball." There's a nice video about president Bush throwing out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium after the 9/11 attacks, warming up under the stands and getting advice from Derek Jeter: "Don't bounce it".. I'll bet Dr Fauci throws a strike, even if it is a changeup.....

If he throws from the rubber, I'll go with the gravity sinker. It's been a while since I've thrown a baseball 60'6"

Second, like EVERYONE, Fauci made some blunders in the early going. Dunno about a ‘storm’ but being in the public eye, he has to take the criticism as well as the praise. And oh yea....PLAY BALL!

Clearly didn't practice. Clearly didn't take a warm-up throw.
He did wear a mask.

He thought the catcher gave him the sign for an intentional walk.

My nephew said it was a deliberately socially distanced pitch.
But still,... he wasn't even standing on the rubber, and 57 feet or so from the plate. That was as bad as if he was shooting a free throw and missed the backboard, to the side.

Clearly didn't practice. Clearly didn't take a warm-up throw. He did wear a mask. But did not wear a mask while watching the game with two other people from the stands, while sitting in three consecutive seats.

Clearly, he's a 79 year old man. As Bob Uecker said in Major League: Juuuuuust a bit outside. On a more serious note Dr. F. revealed to David Axelrod in an interview that he's seen an uptick in threats of violence against himself and his family. Very disturbing.
