RW behind Brett Reed...interesting Also stupid. Reed is very good in recruiting but very bad in everything else. His teams perennially underachieve. In addition to Langel, I would much rather have DeChellis coaching my team than Reed.

Well at least one of his teams did not underachieve Recruiting can cover a multitude of faults See McCallum, CJ

RW would be #1 had we beaten one of Kentucky, Kansas or Marquette. Unfortunately, we never got over the hump.

Well at least one of his teams did not underachieve Recruiting can cover a multitude of faults See McCallum, CJ That team definitely didn't underachieve in the postseason, but they only came in 2nd in the PL regular season despite having what may well have been the best roster ever in the PL: McCollum, Knutson, Greiner, BJ Bailey, Mackey McKnight, Jordan Hamilton, John Adams, etc - all in their third or fourth years except for sophomore McKnight, who was already in his second year as a starter.

One coach who definitely belongs on a PL Top Ten is Don DeVoe. He took over a Navy team that had gone 1-13 in the PL. By his second year he had them at the top of the league, and over an 8-season span, they went 77-23. In those eight years, they won or tied for five regular season titles and went to the Big Dance three times. His final three years - after he turned 60 - his teams declined (partly due to the loss of top recruiter Emmett Davis). But his eight spectacular seasons has to put him somewhere in the top ten.

At least four of those first place finishes were before 2000, the starting date for this piece

Yeah, I hate it when the put important details in the headline of the story.
