Governor Clinton is famous for building the Eire Canal, which was derided by critics as "Clinton's Ditch". You've got the wrong Governor Clinton. The Erie Canal was the brainchild of DeWitt Clinton, governor of New York a quarter century or so after George. "Clinton's Ditch" ranks right up there with "Seward's Folly" as far as totally erroneous political soubriquets are concerned. Seward's Folly was no folly. All those building off the grid and cop shows from Alaska wouldn't half as enjoyable if they were in Russian.
