Any news on who we will, hopefully, be playing? I am guessing Siena, Fairfield and Harvard will be on the docket. Maybe Northeastern? With an emphasis on bus travel over flying, might it be a good time to renew an old rivalry with Fordham? Iona? How about UVM? Seems like that could become a good rivalry plus it’s almost in Canada, a place we seem to be ramping up in in terms of recruiting.

If local games are strongly in the mix, BC, PC and UConn say hello. So do Yale, Umass and URI although HC has played them more than the first three. Haven't played Dartmouth in a while in hoop either. We can always make BU best-out-of-three, play the third game at a neutral site in between.

Might that end up as a tie-break game for the turnpike trophy?

Might that end up as a tie-break game for the turnpike trophy? I have pretty much given up on our old rivals from around New England playing us again, even in this situation we find ourselves in. They seem to think they have too much to lose.

I agree. But, if they are afraid to play a team coming off of a 3-29 season, that seems to me to be pretty pathetic.

I can think of 57 reasons why I'd like to see a return game with Northeastern.

Sad to say I heard a rumor about a D-III team. I forget which, but it doesn't really matter to me

What's the highest capacity gym in the Natick-Framingham area? Turnpike Trophy rule 17-c states any site must be within five miles of a Turnpike exit.

Maybe BC would sell their bubble now that they have built an indoor facility.

Framingham State University has a gym that seats 1000 for basketball.

Sad to say I heard a rumor about a D-III team. I forget which, but it doesn't really matter to me Framingham State University...Their volunteer assistant, Larry Haley, is a HC grad and I believe he was a walk-on hoops player, and Billy Raynor is the Head Coach..

Larry Haley got a lot of minutes in 71-72; his only year on the varsity. Kevin Stacom's departure and a couple of late season injuries had a lot to do with that.
I'd never recognize the picture I just saw in the FSU guide as the same Larry Haley, but I'm sure it is.
Saw a nice tribute on there to my high school coach, Bruce Grealey, who passed away last month. He went from high school to Framingham State and coached there at least 12 years; all-time winning coach there. Quite a character, if he was associated with Holy Cross there'd be a long thread full of nothing but Bruce Grealey stories.

FSU meets the stay local and stay safe idea for this season. But we're getting closer to home. There are some young Crusaders who will have to live it down for a half century if we lose again to an in-state D-3 team. Lightning couldn't strike twice, could it?

It could happen, but I do not believe it will. So I would not be worried.

It is the same Larry Haley who played in ‘71-‘72.

I wonder if we’re loading up on local (1-2 hr bus ride) opponents for next season - this time of the year we usually see some ooc games trickling out I have seen Colgate at st. Bona and Lehigh at URI (hall of fame 1st round game) mentioned recently

Colgate and Bona are just under 4 hours apart by bus, Lehigh and URI just over 4. Close enough, but probably unrelated to current events.

I can't imagine HC would play Framingham State. Nothing against those universities as educational institutions; but they are not all that competitive vis-a-vis Division 3.

I like another game. If we can’t get anybody else D3 works. To me the more games the better.
Togo coached Framingham State from 1991-1997. Record 52-95 .354. Framingham State basketball is as bad as their hockey. Basketball won 2 games. Hockey won 4 games. Two against my school Worcester State 😢

When your football team wins more games than your basketball and hockey teams combined....
Ironically, when their hoop team was pretty good they had a gym worse than HC's fieldhouse. Now they have a nice gym and they're awful.
BTW- who was FSU's first football coach (and a darned good one)? Who was his top assistant?

HC grad Dennis Golden was the first head coach for the club football team in 1972 and continued when it became a varsity team in 1974. He ended up with a winning overall record after starting the program from scratch. Don't remember the assistant. A couple of my HS classmates started with the team when it began as a club sport in their junior year and enjoyed it for two years. I think Golden started winning right away which is much better than Anna Maria and Becker did when they started from scratch.
