2017 Caleb Green #58 Kyle Copeland #67 Jacob Grandison #100 Who'd have thought that the #100 kid would be a starter for a top 20 team, playing 25+ minutes per game, and averaging double figures in scoring? Shows that these rankings don't mean much most of the time.

So Grandison comes in at the lowest rating of all of those HC signees, and now 5 years later, he is starting for a strong Big 10 program. Either the report is worthless or he really worked hard to improve his game.

I believe that we were his only D1 offer.

Here's Grandison's stat line updated:
Played in 16 games, starting11 26.0 min per game FG%: 48.9% 3FG%: 47.3% PPG: 13.4 RPG:3.9 Assists: 35 TOs: 21 Steals: 2 Blocks: 2
Presumably against much stronger competition on average than when he was at Holy Cross. Why can't we get (keep) players like this?

He didn't want to be here, and his lack of effort in the second half of the 2019 PL schedule - especially at the defensive end - demonstrated he had already checked out before formally entering the portal.

I agree with WG. He used HC to get what he wanted, turned his back on HC's commitment to him and left. I think some of his numbers during his last season at HC were due to his having packed it in early.

Does anyone actually know why Grandy left Holy Cross? Certainly it is possible that he "used" Holy Cross. If he was looking to leverage his Holy Cross experience, wouldn't he want to play as well as possible to make himself a more attractive commodity?
My point is that there is speculation as to why he left and gave up halfway through his last season.

Perhaps the coaching staff at illinois is better at developing players than the HC staff was?

I would say he had quiet minutes
I will not speculate as to why

Perhaps not "give up" but he did not give it his best, especially on defense

I believe that we were his only D1 offer. If I remember, he missed his senior HS season with a knee injury..HC was the only D-1 team to offer, even though he didn't play...I think the knee injury took time to really heal...I also believe he "learned" to play D at Illinois, and stepped up his game on offense. His health now is not a deterrent to his play.. Did he use HC as stepping stone? most likely, however, I think he came to HC not knowing what he would have left in his knee..

I believe he played his last year at prep school after injury prevented him from playing in the spring and summer prior

Yes, he played at Exeter in NH with Kyle Copeland and Javante McCoy. I went to one of their playoff games up there. I had heard of McCoy, and was there to see KC. Very early on another kid was standing out; turns out it was JG. I remember googling his name while at the game, and being surprised at finding very little info on him.

According to the William and Mary board, HC is one of many schools interested in Davion Cunningham, a 6’3” guard from the Greater Charlotte area. He has three offers according to Verbal Commits.

Assuming no one transfers out, I'd expect the staff to target a big. Nonetheless, you can never have too many good guards.

I think it's called Team Charlotte and they gave GG a shoutout for scoring his 1,000 point against BU.

We have at least one more scholarship left, right? Seems like a transfer big would be good assuming Gates comes back next year and we don’t have a big need until 2023-24. Then the sit year next year doesn’t hurt as much.
Edit: No more sit year which I read at some point. It forgot. Thanks to trimester for the reminder. Even better and might explain why we have heard of a ton of activity around our one open scholarship. Only issue is that it doesn’t help our class balancing problem as any immediate transfer would be a soph or junior next Fall.

I would love to see an athletic 6-8 220 type, with a physical attitude.

I lean more towards the next Shaq. I know, just me. A little more seriously, I'm tired of 6'8" forwards at Holy Cross. As HC70 used to post (think it was him), I want the 6' 12" player. Maybe needs a year or two to develop but I'm old fashioned enough to want a true center. Oh, yes, not 7' and weighing 170 pounds.

I think the staff would love a name or two, with grades of course, and interest in a PL school

The type of guy I'm thinking about will beat your 6-12 guy down the court 8 days a week.
