Has coach Nelson met or talked to Bob Cousy or Tommy Heinsohn? I assume he has, but Bob Cousy and Tom Heinsohn are not walking through that door and if they do they will be old and gray. Cousy seems especially close to Holy Cross and has visited with the players in recent years. When the Cooz and his co-author appeared in the theater in Kimball to discuss his latest book, I was watching the faces of the assembled MBB team when the number of NBA all star teams Cousy was on was read as part of his introduction. You could see the respect on the players' faces. When Cousy mentioned he watches Fox News every night, the faces dropped a little.

Heinsohn was on campus at winter Homecoming. I did not see Coach Nelson with him, but coach probably had other things to think about.
I don't really know the current players, but of the recent ones I've gotten to know, they were all quite familiar with Togo

Going back to the original question, we don't know. However, the tweet makes it seem like Coach Nelson likes to have a strong association with past players.
Not a slight on Cousy or Heinsohn, but the four guys on that Zoom are all players who danced this century and aren't older than the current players' grandparents. I like the idea of emphasizing that bond with the past. Both distant and not so distant

Four of the best players at HC in the past 20 years on the same call, as well as another guy who battled through injuries and didn't go running to another school when the going got tough -- not a bad call for the current crop of Crusaders. RJ & AVB are also two members of the very rare species who could start and contribute in RW's system right away as Freshmen -- I would imagine they have some wisdom to share with the large group of newcomers.

Too bad about the faces dropping, I will say time changes everything and perhaps even multiple times in the life of many, especially when it comes to political reactions

And that not everyone who disagrees with them is a horrible person.

Why are the players’ reactions necessarily something to be corrected ?

Why are the players’ reactions necessarily something to be corrected ? They aren't. Good points have been made about being exposed to different viewpoints in college. The interesting thing about Cousy's remark is that I believe he meant he keeps Fox News Channel on in the evenings to keep himself company now that his wife is gone. I don't think Bob had an inkling he was making a political statement.

Why are the players’ reactions necessarily something to be corrected ? because anyone who cannot visibly control their emotions to a dissenting viewpoint will not go very far in life and will certainly not be much of a leader of a diverse team.

“Faces dropped a little” Equals not controlling their 18-22 year old emotions ?

“Faces dropped a little” Equals not controlling their 18-22 year old emotions ? yes if one cannot control a visible reaction to something as harmless as someone sharing that they watch fox news, this is indeed an issue that i am glad cousy was able to help them confront. i don't have much taste for cable news personally, but fox news is the most watched cable news network watched by millions of people every day. and perhaps watched by someone who will be interviewing them for jobs and internships, which is relevant for 18-22 year olds.

Try? Seems like a pretty accurate description to me. Course, the transfer culture has changed so dramatically the last decade is pretty much a generation ago imo.

Why are the players’ reactions necessarily something to be corrected ? I would want to correct the cause and hope that would change the effect. At least in my school district, many of the teachers think it’s their responsibility to expose their students at a young age to their own political beliefs and to convince them that anyone who has a different idea about something is necessarily a bad person. I know some will think I am exaggerating but i can assure you I am not. I am certain that’s happening to an even greater extreme on our college campuses. The extremism from both ends of the political spectrum is not healthy and leads to what we see in our society where many don’t feel comfortable sharing a different viewpoint and the most radical ideas are the only ones that see the light of day. It would be great if our educational institutions taught their students to listen and think more than they shout and judge.

Sadly, the indoctrination continues even into the professional school arena. Even the medical students I teach are being poisoned with bitterly divisive rhetoric today.

Probably won’t ever get better under the existing system. Extremism seems to be the recipe for getting elected these days, at least at the national level. There are only a handful of Kyrsten Sinemas and Tim Scotts out there who seem more concerned with solving problems than finding ways to sow the seeds of division and extremism. Not sure if a third party is a realistic option but something needs to change to give the 80% of the country between the 10% at either end a voice.
